Elon is really banking on FSD being completed soon and the lack of stalks/controls that aren't on the steering wheel makes a lot of sense if the vehicle is driving itself. Musk has stated that he wants the vehicles to "sense" which direction you want to go (with the ability to override it on the screen). I personally would still prefer a gear stalk, just to be 100% certain.

I also much prefer a stalk to control the wipers, the Model Y only has the controls through the screen and it isn't really safe messing with the screen when you need to adjust the wipers. What's worse: if you activate AP on the Y, the wiper controls are greyed out and are controlled by the computer (which still occasionally decides that it is OK to run the wipers on a clear day, even when there are no bugs/blockages in front of the camera).

I really hope that they put forward facing radar as part of the HW4 suite on the CT, I have a '15 S85D with it and it is much better behaved than our Model Y ('22) that is only Vision based. I know they are still "calibrating" Vision, but it is freaking out way more than the MobileEye radar based AP1 on the S ever did. IF Tesla can completely eliminate the random freak-outs that the Vision based system experiences, I could do without radar on the CT.

With all of that said though, I am not going to balk at any of the these design changes. I am still holding out some hope that Elon will honor the FSD price at the time of the reservation. I am much more likely to pay that price than the current (and increasing) price for FSD. If they don't honor it, I will probably only subscribe to it when we take long trips.
BTW, my post was 420 for the thread.....winning!

AI could substitute for the stalk.. just gesture as you would if a stalk was there.

Understandable, however I hope you'll convene that it's a bit odd to see shocked and surprised reactions when photos and videos of the interior have been available since the 2019 reveal. What we are seeing in these latest photos is not materially different.

From an aesthetic standpoint I don't see how anyone can claim it looks bad, looking at a hood isn't any better. From a usability perspective if you put items up against the windshield of any vehicle you'll get reflections, this is no different. Just because there now is a large space that would have otherwise been open air does not mean you need to fill it with crap.

A-pillars will limit visibility to the sides but there's not much that can be done about it, it's intrinsic to the exterior geometry of the vehicle. There's no Cybertruck as we know it otherwise. Change that and we'd have people complaining that it looks nothing like was originally shown, rightly so.

That's not the case. One thing is to say that you don't like the design, another is to say the quality of it is garbage. What we can glean from the photos is that the interior is full of alcantara (arguably too much of it), which is a high end automotive material. The console appears to be either wrapped in the same material as the armrest/seats or is made out of soft touch plastic, either way it's not the hard plastic trim you see a lot of other OEM's use.
We can agree to disagree. None of the original photos showed an angle where you saw the wasted space of the dash to such an effect/degree. At least I didn't see them. They were in ways where you didn't really get to see that space, or at least where it was easy not to notice that space.

We also disagree on the aesthetics. That you cannot see how any one can claim it looks bad on aesthetics (ie highly subjective) is an issue you can tend to on your own.

I do not like the design and yes I can claim the materials are crap. That center armrest/console is crap. The model 3/Y centers are much better done. Again, that center console is one I would expect to pull out of a junk yard from a 1990s pickup truck wreck.

But as always, fair minded folks can disagree and YMMV.

Hey everyone. There was a reason why they didn't let people in or close to the truck at the event.

Maybe because it isn't a final version?

Or the interior wasn't up to standard?

For those complaining it's not more like the S or X... good! I need it to be cheap!

Nice try. If I expected what was at launch, I would be seeing 6 seats, a paper dashboard, and a ramp kid. Things change, usually you hope they get better, not the case here.

They can do better then these cheap toyota corolla looking materials. I'm not a fan of the model 3 and y interior either which is why I have an S. They really should bring back the moonroof.
Cybertruck is not a Model S Class car.

Never has been.

Making small changes to a couple features is not the same as changing the entire offering.

Disappointed!
Poor visibility and that BAW doesn't help.
The truck already looks narrow from the outside, and even more from the inside!!
Disappointment is strong here!

It makes no sense to say the area below the windshield is "wasted space". If the windshield had a more standard pickup truck angle, the "wasted space" would be outside the cab. In both cases, nothing can go there because that space is in the driver's line of sight when looking at the road in front of the truck. The reason the Cybertruck windshield encloses that space is to manage airflow at highway speeds. That is a huge advantage in terms of going further with a smaller, lighter, less costly battery, so the space is not wasted. It's a major design advantage of the Cybertruck, not a waste of space.

How do you propose that area be utilized in a less "wasteful" manner without blocking the forward view?
