This feels like another money grab.
Tesla stands to make as much profit on these, if not more than the cyberbeast with all the downgrades, and this has to cut the production time by a decent bit as well.
Actually, I think it indicates that the fundamental elements of the vehicle are quite expensive to manufacture, so they can't actually make money selling the RWD much more cheaply than this, where Tesla simply doesn't do "loss leaders".

I agree the take rate will be low and, at least in the US, they will probably end up discontinuing the RWD trim at some point like they have some of the cheapest trims on other models that haven't done well for the same basic reason.

I agree. The SS panels, SBW and RWS systems add to manufacturing costs.

I think the RWD trim would significantly increase Cybertruck sales if priced at $60,990. After the $7500 tax rebate the net cost would be $53,490.

From the Tesla truck 2025 VIN Decoder:
Digit 8: Motor/Drive Unit/Braking System

B = Dual Drive Rear Axle, Air Brakes (Designated for Semi)
D = Dual Motor – Standard (Designated for Cybertruck)
E = Triple Motor – Performance (Designated for Cybertruck)
Notice that "C" is currently missing. Seems like a single-motor Cybertruck would work perfectly for "C", just before "D" for dual-motor and "E" for tri-motor.

You do make a very good point.

Alternatively, I have been looking at a used Silverado EV Work Truck from Hertz. It is less then $60k with over 10K miles. Still researching and comparing my options. I still would like to get the CT, but some of the numbers and reported issue making me wait/look at other options.
check carvana they have plenty of them for around 50k

Biggest Observations of why I would pass:

NEGATIVES:
- RWD vs AWD...no brainer for me, but I get some are fine with RWD
- NO POWER outlets in the bed??!!
- Huge drop in Towing/Payload capacity
- Coil spring suspension...curious on how this will affect ride comfort/performance
- Soft Tonneau...does not look secure or ridged. I've owned a BAK Roll-X solid rolling cover that was much more secure, this one looks sloppy
- 1/2 the sound system :(
- no more "thrill" acceleration

POSITIVES:
- Better price (of course)
- Supercharges faster than AWD/CB?! (147/137/135mi in 15mins)...interesting marketing Tesla, but should state that all three have the exact same charging speed...you just have more efficency in the lighter/less equipped models, so you go further
- Slight increase in range 362 vs 325/320, but only because of stripped down equipment

Too many "big items" removed for not enough $$ savings...sticking with my AWD!

Will be interesting to see how the market responds to this version. Seems to be giving up a lot of comfort and convenience for 10K so not for me but I am looking forward to checking out that interior.

This was totally setup to point more people to the AWD. They did something similar with both the 3 and Y. They were only offered for a short term to point people toward the better value model up.
This feels a lot like a $20k reduction in functionality for a $10k price reduction.

It's a truck. Utility should come first.
It does, and since 90% of people don't ever use there truck for hauling. They also prioritized comfort. And if you need more capacity, you get the AWD/CB version.

It's the same for all trucks. Entry level F-150 hauls 8200lbs, highest level hauls 13,500lbs

I’m just going to speak my peace about this. I hope Tesla will sell a lot of these base CT, but honestly with the price tag being upwards of $60K I don’t know… I can be totally wrong and I hope so. Since many ICE trucks average between $50K to $60K, which is not that far off. Now, what comes with this base CT I think they should’ve done with the FS vs NFS. Being a FS CB owner I was kind of ticked off with Tesla a little bit. Minus some cheap accessories and FSD that was it. A NFS could get all of those things and still walk away with $10K in the pocket. Another thing that got to me a little bit was between the Beast and Dual-Motors is only the amount of motors. They should’ve added lifetime supercharging for the FS Beast, which would’ve been nice but doesn’t do me any good. About 99.8% of the time I charge at home. Anyway, I said my peace and going to leave it alone now.
