I'm waiting for PowerShare install date and using my old Tesla wall charger for now (48amp to CT)...end state I'd target a wall charger or PowerShare/universal wall charger...interim I'd do 110v/supercharging until you get something installed....yes you can use a 110v or mobile charger for long term, but for me I want max charging speed at home as I drive a reasonable amount and always want the truck at 80% as fast as it can be done....big battery and fun truck - want to use it!

Note: This thread was started when only Foundation orders were available [and title refers to FS] Those came with the Mobile Connector and allowed for acquisition of a Universal Wall Connector.

Non-Foundation only comes with the J1772 adapter.

48A on WC is an important correction regardless. 40A is the CT bed 14-50 outlet limit.
MC is 32A max on split phase on included 14-50. Or 12A on standard 120V plug.
Understood totally and thank you for your input. I 100% agree. My FS did come with a MC 120v15a and 240v50a adapters but did not come with a WC of any kind but have a WC install from 2019. I understand that if I were to get PowerShare equipped ordered it would come in that ā€œorder.ā€

I absolutely understand everyone’s needs are different but without a doubt the most cost effective enjoyable charging solution is a 240v50A 14-50 receptacle installation to use the MC that is delivered with the FS.

The discussion of how many charge miles per hour only complicates some universal principles like how many kW can you get with various configurations. Because the miles you get varies with vehicle. Never mind further confusion when someone threw the destination charger bomb in there

Most importantly the EV experience is dramatically better with something 6kW ((240x32).8)/1000 or more up to 12kW with the CT. So much so that if you don’t ever install some sort of 240v charging and this is your first BEV- you aren’t like to be very satisfied with the experience at all. We never even addressed the ability to charge at non-peak times for more economy and have no concern for when non-peak rates stop in the morning - that only happens with 6kW and higher

The right home charging solution is probably the most important factor in overall BEV satisfaction and minimal lifestyle adjustments. I realize I’m a little late to the party with this thread and to this owners group and only intend to clear up confusion and to help the NOOB OP or anyone else not be overwhelmed by minute details and terminology.

I find your inputs to always be spot on

Oh hey, you are spot on.
My post was written as a general comment on the thread to alert new readers that it was option package specific and only used yours as a springboard.
Sorry if I gave a different impression, was in 100% agreement with you.

If getting Powershare, the installer should be able to get that for you in a timely fashion. If you order it independently, you may end up with two (unless installer buys it off you or something).

If the circuit already exists (note: full Powershare needs a 60A connection), maybe use a temporary 14-50 along with the included Mobile Connector, if needed.
Agreed
The week I first got the truck I had no clue how to charge it when I finally got off of my welder air compressor circuit I wanted to install the wall connector from Tesla and did my electrician said before anybody gets involved in it. They should have their panels evaluated on what type of upgrade it may need to add the necessary 60 amp circuit, it’s just a lot to learn with your first first electric vehicle

Can CyberTruck recoup 30mi range in 8-12 hours via 120v?

asking for a friend.. ?

It is very rare that this friend starts a ā€˜roadtrip’ from his garage

So I will need a 240v installed where I want to charge?
If you have an electric clothes dryer with a location that’s near the car you can use a smart splitter to use that 240v outlet. The smart splitter gives the dryer priority power then switches back to the car when the dryer is off.

I haven’t relied on a gas station or anything higher than 120v at home for the past 10+years for my normal commute to work and grocer duties… I hope I can keep this going. ?

Cybertruck Wh/mile is higher, but if your weekly duty cycle is low enough, it can work.
(If your charging outlet is the only thing on that circuit, you may be able to convert it to 240V 12A (6-15 connector))

technically I get free charging at work, which is only 10mi away.. so I have no worries at all..

But I was generally interested in what could be done… 30miles overnight for me is a baseline…

thanks for the input.

A 120v outlet will give you about 3 miles per hour, although weather and Sentry use will hit this pretty hard as the truck tries to keep itself warm and awake.

If you can use a 20a or 240v outlet - that'll get you over that base awake charge. It's getting more efficient at sleeping, but it's still the worst in Tesla's fleet right now.

@MICyber Thanks for getting the screenshots! I try to always back my posts up, and admit when I write something wrong ^-^

Not trying to be a jerk here but

Buy a 100-120k truck
Charge on 110v? or really anything less than the charger made for it that maxes out charge rate - for $550 + Circuit cost? (maybe I get it in California where a circuit probably cost $3k but rest of country? My 100amp circuit was $1500 and utility co paid 50%)

Guess my point is, imagine for 90% of people it's <$2k for great charge speed...as a % of truck cost it's....low.

To each their own....48amps or bust baby!

I’m just as surprised that many homes still don’t have 220, yet many assume it’s common now..

Soon I will have 220… just not a top priority for me now. I have been fortunate to be able to charge at work for the majority of the last 10years.. I’m very grateful for this. I fully understand that my situation is not common and may sound weird/silly/foreign to many.

It works for me
