A "Wall Connector" is also called "Destination Charging" because you'll see commercial versions are hotels and destinations, like work or parking lots.

Yes, but. Model 3 is a smaller, lighter vehicle that consumes half as many watts per mile as a Cybertruck.

I'm just going off what the online manual says. But you're right, (50a*240v)/450Whmi=26mi

It would be nice if someone could put some real numbers to this, since there are charging losses and overhead from the computers.

...You represent the top 1-2% of commute distance. Maybe get a closer job and recalculate how much you're cutting into your hourly pay by adding on three extra hours to your day.

My M3 best 'mileage' is about 200 kw/mi. Worst is around 350/kw.

That is by no means awesome. On a Tesla Wall Connector with a 60A breaker and 48A max delivery I am getting under 30 miles per hour of charging. At 40A, assuming that you have a properly-wired 240V circuit (and I mean by that that someone with knowledge of BEV charging wired it and not some DIYer or 'regular' electrician) you would get more like 23 miles per hour max, and with the 12A you would get more like 7 miles per hour max.

If your daily commute is 80 miles then on a properly wired and maxed out TWC you could charge in 3 hours. With the 40A closer to 4 hours, and with the 110 more like 11 hours.

I have friends that have gone the cheap route and use an old washer/dryer 240v outlet, but I went the route of an electrician that has installed many BEV wall connectors because I do not want to burn my house down. Even so I have had a couple of incidents that were a bit scary. I say don't cheap it.
Adding to this, the Mobile Connector maxes out at 32A, even when plugged into a 14-50 outlet.
With Cybertruck, this is about 10 minutes per percent SOC, 6% SOC per hour, or 20 miles of range per hour.
It's worked fine for us thus far as we wait for UWC/ Powershare.

Just to muddy the waters further when I got my Model S 6+years ago instead of putting in a wall charger I put a 50Amp outlet in my garage. I bought a used Gen 1 mobile charger which goes up to 40amps. Having said that charging at 32amps was plenty fast on the S, but it's nice to have 40amps available for when you forget to plug in and need a quicker charge. That Gen 1 charger is still going strong after all these years. Haven't plugged the truck in it though.

Really happy you asked this… I was planning for the UWC coming with the truck!!

Are there aftermarket solutions or should we order the UWC anyway while waiting on PowerShare?

I’m going to be mounting mine on an exterior wall on a 50amp circuit…

If getting Powershare, the installer should be able to get that for you in a timely fashion. If you order it independently, you may end up with two (unless installer buys it off you or something).

If the circuit already exists (note: full Powershare needs a 60A connection), maybe use a temporary 14-50 along with the included Mobile Connector, if needed.

I retired in 2021. I live on the coast and getting anywhere on the peninsula and back is 80 miles. 3-4 times a week for kiteboarding, dog walking, etc.

when I was still working I drove 30 miles a day to Colma BART and took BART to Berkeley and back 4 days a week and then did my peninsula trips on the weekends so it was worse…and cost me 2-3 hours a day. Getting a senior researcher job in a field where there are a handful of experts in the world isn’t that easy. Berkeley was a good place to work.

Yeah, some of the scientists on the Gravity Probe B mission my spouse worked on did that; it was at Stanford and some lived out in Salinas.

And for a few years, she worked in the city and so we'd drive from Santa Cruz and she'd take the train back and I'd meet her in Sunnyvale or Mountain View and we'd drive back.

But those sorts of commutes are just rare.

Before that job I worked at NASA Ames in Mountain View. Five days a week at 75 minutes each way in good traffic. I know that, since the pandemic, there are lots of people living in the South Bay that would normally be commuting to the city, and the morning traffic cams show us that the number of people commuting huge distances from Livermore and other points east into San Francisco is huge. Maybe the national average has you jaded. It really doesn’t matter. I live on the coast and am happy not living closer to the urban centers; happy to drive over the mountains…usually driving against the flow.

So what is needed day 1 week 1 for charging at home?
Day 1 - Be super stoked about your delivery! If you can have a NEMA 14-50 to plug in your mobile connector you are in good shape for 99% of your daily driving needs. If you plan to use that indefinitely make sure the outlet you plug into is a Bryant or Hubble brand connector as those brands are better for handling high amp flows for longer periods. That is what I would consider a good first step into EV charging. You can always come back and go full on permanent mount wall unit later.

I don't understand, it says the universal wall charger is included in foundation series. Separately from Powershare... Does that mean I won't be getting the universal wall charger? I know about getting either the powershare equipment or the 2500 voucher. But I thought you get the universal wall connector regardless. There is no indication that the UWC is dependent on getting powershare installed.
Totally agree, the website is rather confusing. When I log in and click manage order and then edit order it shows mobile connector and UWC as being included with both CB and AWD in a section separate from PowerShare. I believe I read a post where someone said they received the UWC when they took delivery of their Cybertruck.

You'll get the Wall Connector in either your Power Share install, or store credits you can spend after you receive and register your truck to your account.

Only the Mobile Connector comes in the truck, assuming they're in stock.

Probably best to make a check list to make sure everything arrives.

This post applies only to the Foundation Series, of course.

The Foundation Series also comes with credit or service for a Wall Connector, which gets up to 40a.

Only if you get PowerShare… even then it will do CT M3 and MY at 48A not 40

That is cool. Am I allowed to buy one of those? LOL Althought I think I will just stick with buying the wall connector for $450 and that will do great.
It’s a wall connector- out in the wild the marketing name is “destination charger” but physically it’s the same as wall connector

Note: This thread was started when only Foundation orders were available [and title refers to FS] Those came with the Mobile Connector and allowed for acquisition of a Universal Wall Connector.

Non-Foundation only comes with the J1772 adapter.

48A on WC is an important correction regardless. 40A is the CT bed 14-50 outlet limit.
MC is 32A max on split phase on included 14-50. Or 12A on standard 120V plug.
