I hit a pothole this morning that caught my attention. I heard someone had severe damage one time and had to pay 34k. That guy had to get his tuck towed. I probably have nothing to worry about for now. But does anybody have any pothole stories to share?

Great pic of that.......you would think the city/state/feds would have responsibility for a disaster like that. Let me guess...California?

This is not a silly question. As soon as funds become available, i’m gonna pay to have full long travel suspension built front and rear, with reinforcements to the subframe and upper aluminum body / shock mounts (most likely steel plate overlays). Get rid of the air suspension and go with a large remote reservoir coil over (Fox or King) and hydraulic bump stop . Basically proper aftermarket “Baja suspension” . The stuff that’s currently available through unplugged or mountain pass is Mickey Mouse and both of those companies don’t come from a desert racing background so no thanks. People have been modifying pick up trucks to smash through potholes and blast through woops out in the desert for decades. No reason a cyber truck can’t be modified the same. Just need a lot of money to do it.

34,000 American dollars? Or did you mean 3.4k?

This post sounds like "care bear" FUD to me, to make people think the Cybertruck is not a tough truck.

I drive 1/3 of my miles off-road in the N. Cascades on many atrocious roads, some almost unmaintained single lane asphalt (at least in the portions where the asphalt hasn't completely disintegrated), turning to gravel sections with big rocks and potholes, back to broken blacktop with huge potholes, etc. And I'm often hustling along pretty good, not 60 mph good, but 35-45 mph is not uncommon. At that speed the potholes sneak up on me. I can generally dodge them but sometimes they present in a pattern that there is no dodging them. I try to slow down a bit, but generally let off the brakes right before I impact them.

I've hit some pretty atrocious crap, stuff that would completely bottom out a normal truck, and do thousands in damage at those speeds, all without any damage to the Cybertruck. Still no suspension clunks developing either, unlike my F-150 4x4 that developed them within the first year, in the same conditions, despite me driving it much more conservatively on rugged terrain. I think you would be hard pressed to find an OEM vehicle that could handle these conditions/speeds better than the Cybertruck, beyond the higher spec Ford Raptors with 35" tires and 17" rims (and any other truck I'm not that familiar with that comes equipped with similar off-road wheel/tire setups and adaptive dampers).

The trucks I'm familiar with that come equipped with adaptive dampers that firm up as needed to prevent bottoming, and come with 35" tires start around $80K or more (and that's for the entry level off-road trims with typically weak gas engines and fragile bodywork).

34k dollars. The story is online
Not pothole damage. He drove off a six foot drop off-road and crashed the front of the truck into the ground.

What kind of BS narrative are you trying to paint here?

This wasn’t the whistling diesel video, this was a completely different incident

All I wanted to hear were some success stories with Cybertruck so I wouldn’t have to worry about paying 34k

Looks like no issues so far from Nebraska roads, and we have some huge ones after winter. I think you heard one story and are taking it way too seriously.

Probably, but it’s good to hear success stories so I won’t end up like that guy

It wasn't a "pothole", it was a washed-out road. The driver was speeding far in excess of safe speeds for a hazardous and unpredictable roadway.

The $34k repair cost was due to the impact breaking the suspension mounts of the rear casting, which required replacement. That must have been one hell of an impact!!

I've hit "stealth speed humps" at 35MPH+ that made a horrendous-sounding thunk when the suspension bottomed-out, but took no damage.
