Rattle from top dash

I have a consistent noise that the SC thought was coming from the left pillar, but the noise didn’t go away. Tapped on top dash and and heard the noise. So could be the vent or something loos on the top dash. Anybody hear the rattle noise when you tap the top left of the dash?

I have a couple minor squeaks and rattles too. I wonder if it's loose clips somewhere due to thermal expansion.

I get some buzzing when driving on chip seal roads. Same sound as in my '23 Model S.

Try doing light taps on all the interior trim and listen for what bothers you. The SC started by tapping on the pillars and added foam inside the plastic. So probably got rid of some noise, but not the one I always hear. Next time I go the SC, I will tap the top of the dash and let him hear the rattle.

I have a rattle in that area just below the pillar glass. I'm 99% sure it is the defrost vent and when I tap in the middle of the mesh I can make the exact noise. Mine is worse on the passenger side vs the drivers, but both will do it. Going to have it tied into my next service visit at some point in the future (Only bothers me on washboard dirt roads).

On the defrost panel, there are tons of clips, and while driving, I can place my hand over this area I circled in red and it'll stop rattling. I suspect a loose clip. I'm also tempted to pop up some of the front clips and put some more sound dampening material in there. Not sure if I want to attempt yet. Mine is a minor rattle.

Had this happen (from what I can tell) while driving on interstate. I tried to find out more where it was coming from while It was active. The road surface changed on the interstate and the noise went away! Wonder if in my case it was just the right frequency of vibrations?

Mine reacts the same way. Try tapping lightly on the top of the dash and listen for the sound.

Does the top dash just pop off? I looked it up once in the Tesla service docs and got confused because it seemed to require removing lots of other stuff.

It doesn’t. The docs tell you to remove items in series so the other parts don’t break. It also requires to remove the airbag, which is something I would rather have the SC do.

The dash does not, has screws, nuts, etc., but the defrost panel does snap off and you can reach it. I can reach it and use a pry tool.

Interesting design choice. My rattle is coming from the right side near the center screen. If I get bored I may pull the defrost panel. I've got plenty of extra Tesla clips from Amazon in case some break.

If you ever end up doing this, let me know how it goes. I haven't ordered any extra clips in case I break any lol, but would be interesting if it pops out easy.
