I agree, removed mine 15 minutes after delivery lol

But the "keeping an eye on the kids" use case does make sense too

Cameras are just evolving to be my primary source over mirrors. Have been reprogramming the meat computer in preparation for side mirror removal too, we'll see if I actually have the guts to do it

Great video to see how to remove and awesome they even added a door to close to looks finished after removal. Really appreciate the small details Tesla adds, they really do matter

I finally removed the rear view mirror before a 4 hour road trip and it's the best thing I've done since getting the truck! It's worthless for sure but I didn't realize how just having it there was distracting me and keeping me from adjusting to the camera rear view on the screen my brain and eyes just couldn't stop looking there and then trying to find a usable image. Both when I needed to check behind me and just as part of normal driving scanning. Each time it only took a second and I'd catch myself and look in the right spot but those are key and valuable seconds when you need to see or know what's there. Once the mirror was gone it made such a huge difference and it was so much easier to adjust to looking at the screen and felt much more natural and safe. My conclusion is that having the mirror is WAY more dangerous than just removing it.

And it only took all of 60 seconds to remove.
This is a really good point, I don't have mine yet but I plan to do the same.

Looks like you will have a pentagon hole when you remove the mirror. Is there or does anyone have a plug that will look nice and plug the hole?

The rear view mirror is stupid and the screen mirror is also terrible. The screen makes everything so small and not really useable. They should have had the rear view mirror as its own screen.

For me, it's actually very useful as it's pointed at my kid in the back. Fantastic.

I took it off the first week I had mine. So much cleaner and better visibility out the front.

They specifically made it easy to remove, and even have a flap that folds up to cover the hole where the mirror bolted to. Hence the clean hexagon after it's removed.

After a few days, looking at the screen instead of the mirror seems natural. In fact, the only annoying thing is, when I get into my Model S, I constantly look at the screen, then realize there's nothing there. I then have to look at the mirror. BTW, the mirror seems so weird after using the screen for a week or two.

FSD will eliminate all concerns regarding mirrors. Yes, mirrors are all distracting (seconds to observe, process and act if needed). Thank God we're moving beyond this cludgy horse n buggy solution to peripheral awareness!

Tesla was forced to put the rear view mirror on CT to meet Federal law which covers the mirror laws in all 50 states. The mirror laws in the U.S. are all over the map. I like and use the camera rear view display, but it took time to adjust to the lengthened distance (objects look further back than they really are).

I'd like to remove the side mirrors. I'd leave the interior mirror in place because 34 states require at least one rear view mirror (makes it easier to talk my way out of getting a ticket). The Tesla rear view camera is wide angle making side view mirrors unnecessary as long as you learn to adjust and don't let other people who depend on side mirrors drive your truck.

I was going to remove the rear view mirror. But I found it useful to monitor loads in the back of the truck that the camera can’t see. It’s also useful if the tailgate is down when hauling something.

For those reasons, I may try to design a 3D printed bracket that folds the mirror up. I just thought of this, so not sure how that would look. But it might open up the view and allow you to fold it down when you need it.

Honestly, the biggest issue with my view is the sun visors. I wish they were above my head and folded down so I could see more. I came from Driving a model X and I miss the overhead visibility.

I don't think so yet. But I'm sure someone will make something. There is a flap that covers the main square hole in the center but I haven't gotten it to close flush yet. But also haven't tried that hard yet.

The only problem I see is if when the tonneau is open the rear view video feed disappears. So then you won't have a way to see directly behind you. I only discovered this because I forgot to close the tonneau and drove off wondering where my camera feed went.

Disagree that the screen mirror isn't useful. It's an adjustment but it shows what I need to see and I can see it all just fine at a glance. I kind of agree about a larger camera based mirror in traditional location may be best but the more I get used to using the cameras and 3d visualization and other safety features the less I feel that way. The whole tesla driving experience is different and not same as traditional (even more so in CT) but that doesn't inherently or automatically make it worse. Once one adjusts, I beleive the overall experience is way better, and that overall the vehicles are way safer. Change is hard and feels weird or bad sometimes but that doesn't mean the way things have always been is the best way for them to stay. There's a lot of logical fallacy in the, if it's not broke don't fix it mentality. It can lead to mediocrity, stifle innovation, and prevents iterative improvements.
