Sandy Munro gets 2 ... with one headed to scrap heap and he want us to pay for that one. Hmmm. If he was NOT getting paid on the backend, or if he paid us back for his crying poor on the front end, I would consider it. Let's say he gets the 120k up from and 120 of us give him $1,000 each. I would do that today. BUT, he gets 360k selling what he learns from YouTube and his customers, we get nothing back? Hmmm. So he gets to keep the whole 360k which only cost him labor and rent? Not a fan. SURE, I like what Sandy does but asking viewers for $ because the upfront is high ... is it really. In America, we call that investment. Sandy, I am willing to invest but not just contribute.

Actually in America, we call this Capitalism.

Donate or donā€™t donate. Thatā€™s your choice.

It costs upwards of $1M for a complete vehicle teardown due to all the engineering hours and manpower. The videos will generate clicks/views but not MrBeast money.

Still, I imagine theyā€™ll sell a few of those expensive reports.

Capitalists don't ask for donations.

Capitalists invest their own money, or seek investors.

It makes me wonder if Munro is even a viable company, or if he is just preying on Tesla stans to give him money.

Sandy seems to be biased at this point. He's always wearing Tesla gear and now he even goes to Tesla nerd events. I wonder this behavior has hurt business? A serious engineering design firm would not operate like this.

Sandy backed his Cybertruck into the wall of his garage. I learned something there, and no disassembly was required.
The upper corners of the back of the cyber truck stick out farther than the bumper. Watch out. The back up camera indications arenā€™t as easy to use as in other vehicles Iā€™ve driven no little tick marks stop or chimes when youā€™re about to impact something.

And Tesla refuses to install proximity sensors in the bumpers.

Prox sensing is now part of the "tesla vision" suite, which has not rolled out to cybertruck yet. Hence no autopilot either.

Woah, if I was a startup, asking for money would clearly be based on investment. Meaning, the giver has risk but we believe in the recipient.
Sandy is not a start up.
maybe it does cost a million & to tear down a CT and document every nut and bolt. Fine. No matter what it costs, this is not his first rodeo. So, he has a clue about cost vs return.
My problem is this. Munro says he had to buy the truck and selling high priced openers is fine, asking for money is fine. But, donā€™t make it sound like help is needed to pay for it, back it into a wall, then say ha! ā€œAt least mine wonā€™t have that damage and I am getting it tomorrow.ā€
All I am saying is this is NOT capitalism because giving money to help him pay for a CT, 1st or 2nd is just a donation to Sandy with no expressed or implied return. Even a bottle opener would be better than what he offered which was zero.
He has the right certainly to ask, my answer will be no because. I am a capitalist, and want my money to work for me, not Sandy.

He didn't say donate he said if you want to advertise. Basically to pay to put your logo on a sticker somewhere.

How did Sandy get 2 trucks. He claimed he was not going to get one from someone after his attorneys looked at the situation, but also expressed he was far back in line, so did Elon and Tesla essentially move us all back so he could cut in line?

I understand where you are coming from. In business world, there is a clear distinction between for-profit and non-profit. AFAIK, Sandy is running a for-profit entity; however, you might know that even in for-profit, there could be pre-seed funding/angel investors, such as friends and family, who might contribute without asking an equity or return or interest rate. I think Sandy is asking viewers to advertise, which is not a donation or a contribution. I vaguely remember in one of the videos where he mentioned that someone in his family needs medical help, so he is selling few things at a high markup cost. I couldnā€™t find that video to share.

Anyways, if someone considers him as a friend, there is nothing wrong in contributing to his for-profit company without asking equity or capital returns. It might not be a good financial choice. You cannot write off that as donation in your tax filings, but itā€™s still a legit contribution thatā€™s not uncommon to raise capital to expand for-profit businesses. Think of it as giving $500 to a friend who is struggling to make money from his startup. Would you ask for x% equity or 2X returns or 10% interest rate? Itā€™s a personal decision.

I love and appreciate Sandyā€™s contributions and eagerly await moreā€¦

however this did kind of rub me the wrong way also.
We the general public gain little but entertainment from his YouTube.. the other OEMs however may be a different story.

the message comes across as if we want to learn more from his videos please support above and beyond the ā€˜click countā€™

he has the right to ask, we have the right to denyā€¦

Times are changing..
