Good move. I would have save about $30k doing that.
Seems outrageous when I think about it now. That’s what I functionally paid to have the first Cybertruck on the block type thing.
Same here, but honestly I have 0 regrets.

Worst case scenario, if you buy, you get the $7500 credit and have to spend an extra $2500 for the PowerShare setup, which still keeps you in the green $5k. I would go for it and hope for the best and if not, just spend the money for Powershare. I'm in the same boat as you, have solar and 3 powerwalls, and want additional backup because I'm a power fiend LOL but waiting for that update

I’m coming down to decision time: I have solar, 2x Powerwall 2, Tesla backup gateway, and UWC. I’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on a CT for the software update which will enable PowerShare. If I wait till it’s released, I may miss $7500 lease incentive/tax credit. If you were me, would you pull the trigger now to be sure you get the credit, or wait to be sure the software update comes out by end of Q3 as promised? I won’t hold anyone responsible for whatever decision I make based on your responses lol
Just buy the truck get the discount and when the software update releases it will update overnight in your garage. I have Solar, Powerwalls, and the truck. I can turn on the PowerShare but it says not communicating just yet. It will come in Q3 sometime. No point in waiting for the software.

Just did a query on Grok. This came back. Looks like the update is delayed. Still get the truck OP. You won't regret it.

I hear you, but if the software update doesn’t come, I’m committed to paying for the CT without the benefit of PowerShare. If PowerShare wasn’t going to be enabled in the foreseeable future for my situation, I’d probably pick Model Y over CT, as I’m not really going to get use out of the CT’s features that are above and beyond MY.

Thanks for quick responses! PowerShare is the biggest reason I’d buy a CT over, say, a model Y. I love Tesla in general and want FSD, so any model would be great. Significant bonus for CT would be PowerShare to provide extended backup during outage at home. Hard to justify extra cost without PowerShare.
I have two 2024 FS Cyberbeasts, I have Free lifetime supercharging on one, and I charge the second with Solar
I did not get a tax credit, on either, I am installing Power share next month which was free with the June 2025 promotion if I purchased before June 30th, I also received free lifetime connectivity, and zero percent financing. the choice was simple for me.
I enjoy my trucks each and every day!
pull the trigger, you will not be sorry. Power Share will come.
I just reached my one-year anniversary with my first FS Beast, and so far, I have not lost power.
in fact, my power has not gone out in 5 years.

CT is just another tool to help us save money, I have no more Gas or diesel costs, no more maintaince costs, and soon no more electric bills, I drive up and down the east coast from New England to Georga fuel free.

Pull the trigger now, and welcome to the club!

Have you driven a Model Y yet? or a Cyberbeast? Steer by wire is a gamechanger, everything fits in a CT, family, kids, camping, Hauling, moving, dinner, Date night, beach, rodeo, fairs, towing a boat or camper, landscaper, tradesman, homeowner gardening, that new 85" TV, moms couch,
not to mention work stuff.
Elon Gave the world a blank slate, go make it your own with a wrap, and hundreds of accessories!
AWD is the best value by far of any tesla, if you're worried about range, Get a Beast with the LUX Package, Free Supercharging for life! 2.49% interest is peanuts for 5 years!
look at the LUX Package and pull the trigger!

you will never regret it!

I've driven MY and CT multiple times. I definitely enjoy driving the CT more, but all of the features you listed are things I have no real use for, and have considered. No doubt the CT is more versatile, more fun, more everything, than the MY. But the way my wife and I would use it wouldn't really be different from the MY. So the only thing that could justify the significantly increased cost would be PowerShare. (Worth noting that I would have already pulled the trigger if it wasn't for my wife's hesitance over the price tag, and that we don't really need another vehicle.)

she might be right, but look at the big picture, it can power the house at night, and that is a huge drop in electricity costs. the software will come; the tax credit will be gone.
Test drive a beast for the weekend, and do some work around the house and garage,
I have a loner cyberbeast right now and I went back and forth to GA last weekend from CT, i hauled my Harley's down for the winter.
Tuesday i went to New Hampshire, Wed Mass, and tonight I am picking up my new tool box from Harbor freight, and moving a new full-size freezer tomorrow, I planned all of my big work around a loaner, or a weekend test drive. I'll put over 6500 miles on in 10 days!
Free supercharging with a Loaner or weekend test drive! Go For it and let her drive with FSD or Auto Steer! I cant get my GF out of the Drivers seat! she loves it!

You have had a lot of responses, but it really goes back to your original question. If you want the Cybertruck to use as additional battery capacity in the event of a grid outage which gives you better peace of mind, then get the truck. Will Powershare be enabled by the of Q3? It does not look like it. Could it be enabled by 10/31/2025? Perhaps. Maybe later? Potentially. Would you kick yourself if you decided to skip it and then Powershare is pushed out on 10/10/2025? Definitely. I think you just need to decide if you believe Tesla WILL push the update. If you believe they are going to do it, then get the truck. If you think Tesla is going to pull the rug, then pass on it. It's better, IMO, to have a truck and not need it than to need it and not have it. This is a marvelous tech powerhouse.

Powershare/ Cybertruck isn't designed for daily time of use load shifting. It requires disconnecting from the grid and goes against the pack warranty terms.

What promotion was that? (It doesn't impact me, but I'm surprised I didn't hear about it).
June 2025, tesla was giving away the 2024 Foundation Series AWD, they went fast, and then on June 5th it hit the left over Cyberbeasts, Free Cyberwheels , free white interior, and all of the other FS goodies. along with FREE Power Share, free lifetime supercharging, free FSD, Free Lifetime connectivity, and zero percent financing

You hit on the big question in my mind - do I trust that Tesla will EVER deliver PowerShare for the CT for my situation? I guess I trust that it will come eventually, but I don't necessarily trust that it will be soon. But perhaps the better way to frame it is, if it doesn't happen within 6-12 months from me buying/leasing a CT (I'd go with lease, we don't qualify for tax credit), how much flack am I going to get from my wife

Lol. If you believe it is going to come, then go for it. That was a top selling point for me as well. I went and got solar and a powerwall 3 with plans to use the truck for powershare as needed. If i did not think it was coming, i would have gone with 3 powerwalls instead and only got a model Y. I believe the update will come, they seem to have pushed it back a bit but it still says 2025 and not TBD, 2026, or at some point. They're working on it.

If it helps, I don't go off-roading, i don't tow, i don't landscape, lol. I didn't NEED a truck. But on those rare instances where my wife finds an amazing deal on some big piece of furniture we don't need, I don't have to go rent a truck for 4 hours from Home Depot. We got the truck and model y at the same time in March 2025. The Model Y has 1,963 miles and the truck has got 14,788. It is just so much more comfy to drive, especially longer distances. The model Y is fine. But the truck is better.
