I smell a strong chemical like odor when I open my CT underbed compartment. Does anyone have this? Is this normal? Or, should I take this issue with the service department?

Thanks for your reply for my concern. Thanks.

Yeah, the Smuggler’s Bay has a definite new vehicle/chemical smell. I kinda like it. It it is in every CT that I’ve had the pleasure of peaking into. It fades over time. Maybe throw some Pinesol water in there, slosh/scrub it around, and let it drain outta the drain plug? That might be a good idea before you make an ice chest out of the Smuggler’s Bay for cold ones…

It is normal when truck is new. It appears to be the sealant they use. Best way to get rid of it is to leave the smugglers bay door open whenever possible. My CT is 6 months old. I still smell it whenever I open that bay.

The All-Weather mats do a similar outgassing.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge about it. I don't worry about it anymore. I thought there was some kind of fluid leak. I'm glad it's normal.

We've had ours for ~16 months, still stinks like it did on day 1 in there, but, I don't hate it.

Smells like fresh surf resin . Presumably the sealant around the battery (fire retardant )

The battery isn't adjacent to the compartment.
I think it's just well sealed, leaving it open helps it air out. Having vault open and in direct sun might help too.

I used an industrial ozone generator and it barely made a dent lol.

I finally tossed in one of those baking-soda refrigerator boxes in there, and it’s done a pretty good job of absorbing the odor.

I've had mine 9 months and it's still there, and stinks up the towels, etc I put in there. I now leave it open with tonneau closed while driving around. BTW design flaw: you cannot reach in and open that compartment with the gate closed -- you have to open the gate. Maybe in the future, if CT isn't discontinued, they could change that.

I have had my truck for 15 months. The smugglers bay smell is gone. Only seemed to last 6-8 months and then I stopped noticing it. Still a slight plastic small, but nothing like it was when it was new.
