I think it remains to be seen, but on the order page it does say "Powershare home backup requires installation at your home".

So.... unsure if Tesla could simply itemize this, and just send folks a wall connector.

Image from Tesla website.

It appears that the Gateway V3 will mount outside next to my meter and the universal wall connector will need to interface directly to the gateway. If i were just mounting a normal wall charger, it would interface to my load center in my garage With a 60amp breaker.

Considering my meter is on the opposite side of my house to the garage, installing PowerShare is going to be much more involved.

I guess it makes sense that they don’t want to back feed the load center with the universal wall charger even if the gateway isolates the primary feed during an outage.

In terms of the install, you are responsible for finding and paying an electrician to install it. Tesla can recommend local Tesla certified electricians, but they do not coordinate the install or anything.
For the Foundation series, Tesla's communications have all indicated "we will have an installer contact you". I called the Austin-area authorized installers just to get a quote, and they were all like "lol no"

I’m SHOCKED! You park your Rivs inside and the TESLA outside? Buddy, you are on the wrong forum! Ha Ha Ha!
I'm building a new 2-car garage for my Teslas (Cyberbeast coming soon too). We get a lot of hail storms here in Texas. Rivians are notoriously expensive to repair from hail damages; around $30-40k or ended up getting totaled by the insurance carrier. These computer on wheels costs over $100k each while I paid just over $60k for the Tesla so, in the meantime, Tesla gets the short straw ?

This is a pretty scary installation, between the pipe bomb and the launch button
The launch button is the emergency power shut off for the fire department ? while the pipe bomb ? contains the schematics of my complex solar system/ battery packs setup in case the firemen decided to entertain themselves with the diagrams while my house burns down ?

For sure. I just wonder if it is too much of a safety or liability concern including something that needs to be hard wired to a 240v input. We shall see how it goes.

I think they should just sub in the Cybertruck Basecamp on request. :D

I mean we can go to their website (and even to amazon) and buy a wall charger no questions asked. It seems like the least they could do is include that whether we are approved (or want to pay for gateway install) or not.

Worse case just plug the NEMA 14-50 plug in the bed of the truck into a standard generator inlet box and just use a main breaker interlock kit to isolate the grid. thats my backup plan in case all this becomes very expensive to install. not worth it.

The issue with that is the power limit is much lower from that plug. I'm finding 30A 40A, vs the 48A that you can send with the bidirectional charger.

Edited for accuracy

yea, not ideal, but i think the limit is higher then 30. definatly lower then the NACS connector but it will work for home backup if its going to be super expensive.

I'm also finding 40A in other places... The info is probably here in this forum, but since the only way to access the manual at this moment is to watch a youtube video where someone scrolls through it, I don't have the information handy. I do know that the limit is not the same as the NACS though.
