Yeah I have the same problem. iPhone 15 Pro Max. It gets hot just after 5 minutes. Leave it there and the iPhone shuts down due to over heating. The inductor seems to be off. It happens to me on cheap wireless chargers that I use.
Yes I have the same problewm on my CB. Both charging trays cause the phone to over heat and no charging!

My Pixel 6 doesn't charge, actually just heats up and drains battery. I really wish the chargers could just be turned off so I can still use the dang holders.

Drop your phone in sideways. Or upside-down. Or face-down.

I've been experimenting with this using a pixel also. I can get it to charge in the default position, but it's pretty bad. My last test was 2%->13% in 2 hours. While it's not nothing, it's certainly not particularly useful.
It does not charge at all in any position other than default, at least with the pixel.

I'm not loyal to any specific phone brand, but I do buy last year's models. Sorry, I will never buy a phone for the price of a good laptop.... ever.

You and I have different definitions of "good laptop"

Quite possibly lol, but I don't game and whatnot, nor am I an Apple user. So $1200 get's me a "good laptop" for my use!
Fair enough.

In my case, I spend all day banging on my work laptop, but for personal use the phone gets most of my attention. The laptop gets dropped far less often, however.

iPhone 15 Pro Max and same here, gets good and hot, no charge.

I just flip it over so at least I can keep the phone out of the cup holders, haha!!

Hoping the iPhone 16 Pro Max (rumored there may be an ‘Ultra’ model) will work better!!

Samsung S20+ phone here, does get a little warm if the screen is up and it is in the sun (haven't installed sun screen on upper ceiling glass yet), but charges cooler if I turn it upside down in the tray...

Edit 7/10/25: After using more, I saw that the phone did get quite warm when trying to wirelessly charge and the state of charge didn't go up very much during a charging session. I made a service appointment for the issue a few months ago and they told me they tested it and everything was working okay. My thought at this point is to try and find a way to see what the best phone position is for charging over the coil. Maybe an app will tell me where/when the current is max (where the best match is between the phone and the wireless charger coils)?

I had one of those super thin Thinborne Aramid carbon fiber cases in my Pixel 8 Pro. It got hot and wouldn't charge. After removing it, the phone still gets a little warm but does charge. Apparently Aramid conducts electricity and can affect wireless charging.

iPhone 14 Pro Max here w/ thick magsafe compatible case (Otterbox Defender). Mine charges, but it does get pretty warm for sure. It does seem to keep up pretty well when I'm using it (I often listen to YT podcasts while driving) and will slowly charge if I'm not (maybe 10-15% per hour). Hopefully the iPhone 16 will work better.

EDIT - I should note that I couldn't get this phone/case to charge at all on my Model Y's chargers, so this is an improvement in my book.

Works great for me but I have an iPhone 12 and I don’t use a case.

my Subaru ascent cooks my phone if it’s not aligned perfectly on the wireless charger.
Is your iPhone 12 the larger size or the smaller?

my CB and iphone 15 Pro donot mix. Overheat and no charge. I brought my CB in last month for the new wiper motor AND windshiled replacement ( delamination). During that visit I asked them to fix the charging. They did not. Moreover, they said " My charger on my model Y does not work." So I'm supposed to accept that excuse (since the managers phone charger does not work), its ok that my new CB phone charger does not work. Odd resaoning at best.

You'd think a company known for amazing engineering could get a simple phone charger to work. If I buy a $29 after market charger it works fine. But in both my 3 and my CT - nuthin' but embarrassingly bad weak-sauce. Elon should evaluate whomever's in charge of Tesla interiors and get someone that can at least copy the $29 manufacturers.

Major fail for an otherwise strong company.

Side note: My iPhone Max 16 charged today... I couldn't believe it when it popped up saying it was charging. I did NOT MOVE it. Will see tomorrow if it works again. LoL.
