Will Tesla stick with a 3mm thick exoskeleton for production?

Hello all. Don't be surprised to hear that exterior panel thickness has been reduced on the production Cybertruck. Why? Range, cost, ability to mass manufacture and frontal crash requirements.

I predict the front valance, front fenders and hood will be 1mm thick and that the other panels will be reduced to 2mm, about 1/16” (about the thickness of a nickel).

There's little structural reason for non-exoskeleton panels (doors, hood, etc.) to be 3mm, but Elon was not selling a "mostly 3mm" truck.

With 3mm doors, I'm actually looking forward to door dings lol

I predict that your prediction will be 100% wrong and clearly based on no evidence from Tesla. What have we learned here, from you or me? Nothing.

the 3mm really is quite heavy

The analyses I posted yesterday both show that the Cybertruck with 3mm will weigh less than a standard F150. So why the moaning? Some people here seem unable to believe that Tesla can deliver what they say when history tells us that Tesla always over delivers.

I will not be surprised when you are proven wrong. There has never been a single statement from Tesla that even hinted at a change in the CT composition.

I wish he had stuck with 4mm, but 3mm is ok. Perhaps someone showed him that the degree of safety improvement for the extra 1mm was minimal.

3mm SS stainless borders on overkill for a consumer vehicle. 3mm is roughly two quarters stacked together.

About 1/8", but not overkill for what Tesla designed it for. You are welcome to buy another truck if you don't want this feature, but Tesla designed this as a load-carrying element, and as a passenger-safety element, and as a work truck that can take abuse, so what has traditionally passed for normal iis no longer the case.

I hear you. I want the truck to employ 3mm thick SS panels as much as you do. The distinctive SS panels are the major reason I reserved a Cybertruck the morning after the reveal.
