Is anyone else concerned about the sunlight and heat build up under the large windshield surface area under it? Besides a huge sun reflecting blocker when parked. is there a legal limit on the amount of mirrored reflection a windshield can have built into it?

There was some discussion about this a year or so ago but about the top/rear window and not the windshield. No one mentioned statutes (at least in the U.S.) at the time. Some wanted that window replaced with stainless. Some wanted it to be removable like the Hummer. Tesla tends to put tinting on the upper portions of the windshield and the entire moon roof window and, depending on your height, any heat should be dissipated by the headroom. The HVAC should be able to maintain a survivable climate :) is it your experience that vehicles with metal roofs are cool on the inside because that has not been my experience.

it, plus the glass roof, does seem to make for a rather large solar collection in the cabin

though unclear how much more significant that will be compared to the panoramic roofs in other models, which also have sloping rear windows

Those panoramic roofs have been one reason I’ve not been not attracted to other vehicles

but I tend to be of the view that the CT roof may have switchable electrochromic glass

in any event, as with all my vehicles, I plan to tint the everyloving hell out of it

and with the slope of the CT windshield, a whole lot of it is probably subject to tinting

I never notice my wife's Model Y roof. I get more heat from the driver's window. Ceramic on her front two windows will cool that down. I have ceramic on windows and windshield of my F-150 and will probably do the same with my Cybertruck, though not as dark on the windows as it makes driving at night a little tricky.

Anyway, I'm sure Tesla will have a similar, if not better, treatment for the CT roof as the MY roof so this is not a thing to worry about.

Yes, I'm in Nebraska. Yes, we see triple digit heat in the summer.

I didn't like the range reduction so I turned off cabin overheat protection. Even ventilation only will plug up filters over time. If I think about it I turn on the AC as I walk to the car. The electronic are good to 165 I think. This is parking 9 hours at work. For short periods overheat or AC is worth it for comfort and energy consumption I think. Should be same with CT.

Anyone know if the CT glass roof will have the cool Tesla signature red/orange tint when wet from the UV-reflective coatings? Thinking CT roof glass might be a stronger formulation than S3XY roofs. I haven't noticed it on any of the test mules. Might give the CT another neat look after a rain storm.

Lets hope Franz includes a UV filter in the glass, this would be robust engineering
or add UV window tint as I did in my MY
Xpel clear UV tint in the front windshield
CT is in my future buying plans and will def do this again if necessary

I thought the view above in our Model 3 and Model Y were awesome and then on our Denver road trip a grater on the side of the road threw a road that cracked our moon roof and the crack spread across the entire moon roof and it had to be replaced. Not warranty so it cost me $1,200. As a result, I am concerned about the ability of the armor glass to withstand this kind of abuse much more than I am concerned about how much heat enters the cabin.

The big thermal load in the cabin comes from the IR rays over the UV. UV damages material, but low heat transmission.

I've had glass roofs in cars, and found they let a lot of heat in while driving. In the summer, had to close them off. Then after renting a 3 and a Y and driving an S I noticed something. It wasn't hot on my head like a normal glass top. Whatever they are using, it works. I don't expect anything less out of the CT.

makes me think to ask: next person to see a CT up close, look at the windshield for thethe manufacturer's AS-1 line

At least in TX, that’s the lower limits of a tint ‘brow’

given the unique windshield of the CT, will be interesting to see where the AS-1 is

I suspect it won’t be any lower than the lower line of the sensor cluster

But the odd thing is, given how far forward the glass reaches, basically to the same location as the driver’s field of view over the hood, I suspect lower brows will be a no-go (legally or visibility-wise)

Laminated glass is made from laminated plastic between two layers of glass, which is known to block 98–99% of all UV light.

Regular side or door glass, such as tempered glass, blocks UVB rays, but it allows 63% of UVA rays to penetrate the cabin of a given vehicle.
