Higher profile tires for better absorption of bumps and rough terrain, but the same outside diameter for drive-train gear ratio consistency and speed accuracy. Lower profile tires for stability and better handling in curves mostly used on roads and streets.

These have been common choice variants on trucks and SUVs for the past 40 years or more and are nothing new.

Shouldn't even be a question now either, as it's just a wheel choice being tested. I'm sure something in both types will be offered. I think what's 'ugly' to some are just the covers, and could be replaced with aftermarket ones easily. I bet some of the aftermarket wheels will be sweet also!

For example, I still especially like these CyberHex Wheels:

Not a fan of the smaller wheel look, or those awful hubcabs, but probably a base/ range friendly option that will be offered.

The smaller hubcaps look a little too Dinky Toy like! That charge port door swings up now? I recall it was the other way.....but hey, this makes it less likely to be knocked!
Edit: Door always was as shown .....my bad!

I'm guessing they changed the cap design because of the one time THAT WE KNOW OF that cap flew off on the highway. Because while I don't typically care for aesthetics like this. These look bad.

Not a fan of the hub caps...
But the smaller tires just look strange on this car. I really hope this just isn't another play to upsell you to what should be the standard tire.

Yeah, no way the wheels are 28. Would look more like this

Yes, that's the look.

Of course, somebody will try to put the biggest wheels possible on it, and it will look just as silly as that.
