Looking forward to this as I haul stuff too. Possibly getting a much larger trailer in the semi-near future too.

Do you know if there is a way to have a custom range? Meaning, say, the most I want to travel is 100-125 miles until recharging to verify you have enough battery for the next destination, but also that the entire route has charging options within that distance for the entire route.

Adjusting arrival energy in the trip planner (newer feature) can do that if the truck isn't compensating enough for the trailer.

is this to allow FSD while towing? Because we need FSD on a long road trip towing campers, boats, atv trailers or race car trailers.

I don't believe we are getting this. The above change is to start storing trailer configs by the type of trailer hooked up in order to get better range estimates.

100% agree on the FSD with a trailer, or at a minimum, auto fall back to auto-pilot or simple cruise when a trailer is installed.

Of course when it's no longer hooked up, should default back to FSD.

Dimensions (especially when lacking Cd) aren't really needed to make range estimates though. It would be much more accurate to just observe energy usage vs speed, temperature, and wind.

They are useful for FSD, if only to know how much camera image to ignore.

Agreed, but looking for a simple fall back worst case scenario option. Especially if I have to travel to a far off state to pick up up said much heavier trailer. Don't want to be stuck because chargers were to far apart (knowing that the range will suck ass --> technical term there).

Oh, yeah using it to estimate a trailer you haven't used yet, that's a great thought!

Would providing trailer and/or tongue weight help with range estimates provided as part of the profile? I’m a n00b potential trailer user, LOL.

An accurate weight will help. Tongue weight will not effect range

Trailer mass/weight is a field on that screen.
Tongue should be ~10% and only impacts which tire's rolling resistance is in play.

Force of drag is essentially Cd*A (cross-sectional area). So the width and height of the trailer makes a big difference, by increasing the cross-sectional area.

People always forget this when talking about drag, for some reason. For example, Cybertruck might be more aerodynamic than the Rivian R1T, even though it has a higher Cd. This is because the cross-sectional area of the CT is (maybe?) less than the area of the Rivian.

As far as I know SuperCruise is the only EV truck system that allows ADAS to work while towing. Various youtube videos and articles mention this unique EV truck feature.

Hopefully, knowing the trailer details will be enough for algorithms to account for longer distances for braking (as one example) to enable FSD or at least AP (TACC and Autosteer {when Tesla adds it to the CT}).

Note: I've hauled trailers in a couple of different Tesla models. It appears you can use AutoPilot when hauling a trailer (trailer mode) *unless* the trailer is really heavy (or it detects a threshold during driving).

Every time I've hauled a trailer the truck has adjusted well and provided fairly accurate range estimates already.

I’ve considered using trailer mode to stop the annoying back up warnings and travel warnings when my bikes are in the back. Is there any concerns with doing this? What does trailer mode actually do to the controls if the truck?
