You know, if they put a couple big ass magnets on the inside upper edge of the top of the windshield right under the headliner above the visors that mated with a couple big ass magnets actually fused to the light bar with bolts instead of caulk or whatever fancy name they give that, that would ensure that there was pressure applied between the glass and lightbar for the duration of the “curing” and also make it so people wouldn’t write horror stories about the bar almost killing other motorists on the freeway.
If the glue failed, the bar would wiggle but probably not fly off. People mount starlinks like that all the time.
I feel like at $2500 or so a pop, it’s not unreasonable to provide a redundancy for this genius mounting method. Especially with the amount of PR it has gotten.
How expensive can four magnets be?

I just copied you. Lets see how it goes. VHB is no joke… that stuff was locked on the moment it touched.
Cool. Very much hope I didn’t lead you astray. Got any pics?

the only thing i will add is that you get 1 chance to lay the tape correctly. You cant stick/lift at all. The other thing i saw on the 3m site is they recommend a “wet down” which is where roll pressure along the tape once applied with a roller or your finger. I used the roller that came in the tailgate rubber protector sticker thing from tesla for that.

otherwise it went smoothly. My truck was already connected in the B pillar from the factory.

ill post some pics when i get out of work

Yeah. I did the finger thing when I first put it on compulsively for a while but the suction cups I think really help with that process too. They compress it and then I think it sort of attempts to escape from the pressure to anywhere that’s an empty space like an air bubble or surface imperfection and I think that maximizes the adhesion but I’m speculating and imagining all of this.
I like the roller idea. That roller ended up in some junk drawer in my garage though probably never to be seen again. It’s like the Bermuda Triangle in there right now.
You happy with it?

What he said. Which is generally what you want to say after @mongo speaks.

Bro! How do you have time to practice emergency medicine and simultaneously pick up so many pop culture references?

AnyWho, you are correct once @mongo has spoken— it’s done! This is the way.

Which is why I chose trauma surgery. I spend as little time in the ER as possible.
JK.
Having a whole icu to take care of in addition to whatever comes in and a floor full of people who need discharge dispos is even worse. Believe me.

I havent decided yet… maybe once the suction cups come off and i see it without them and i find a practical use for it ill feel better about it. At a minimum i think its gonna take 6 months of it staying attached (through the new england winter) for me to feel comfortable that its not going anywhere…

That’s why we come help down there whenever we can. We understand the heat…
We just don’t want to stand in there too long and get charred.
