That's crazy. For starters, only a fraction of cybertrucks do in fact make this noise. I've had my truck since April of 2024. My noise just began in September. Something changed. Secondly, Elon would never allow as standard a truck that makes such a loud annoying sound constantly. It ruins the experience. Do we have no recourse? Lemon law?

Funny but that's what the SC told me to do. Seriously. Instead of going all Sherlock Holmes and diagnosing until the issue is uncovered the dude said just turn up your music. Not the answer I was looking for...

I notice the same thing in mine. July 2025 build. It starts almost exactly at 38Mph+. I think it’s an aerodynamics thing with the windshield because it’s coming from that direction, and slightly to the driver’s side. If you look at where the windshield wiper is, there’s a dip that wind could be swirling in there versus the passenger windshield side, which is pretty flush. But….I’m no scientist.

Honestly, I think this is something software related. When I first got my truck it never made the noise. I recall at some point last year getting an update (can't remember which version) and that sound appeared. I tried asking Wes on X if something had been done with the HVAC system in that software build which could introduce this noise but obviously never got a response. It feels like air baffling or flow may of changed. That's my 2c. Might tape up the entire air intake grill for a trip just to see.

ChatGPT suggested a test. Get the Cybertruck up to around 45 mph where you can hear the noise and shift into neutral. This can help differentiate between aero causes and drive unit torque related causes. I tried it on mine just to make sure it’s safe, and it was, there’s a “Hold for Neutral” button on the Controls screen. Once done testing use the screen to swipe back into drive like one normally does. If anyone still hearing the noise wants to try it, it could be a useful data point.

I’ve had this problem still for the past 8 months. Seems to start even sooner now. Around 20 mph..was starting around 40-50. It doesn’t sound like air to me it sounds like static noise. Probably drive unit or something. I showed them the problem and they also said it’s normal. bs!!

so what are our options here? Are we just stuck with a 100k machine with an annoying sound forever? Can we escalate, maybe as a group, to get some action maybe? There has to be a bunch of us. Short of that, what's our recourse? What're you all planning to do?

Well, mine started making this noise as well, probably a month or so ago. 6.5k miles on the vehicle, 69k vin. Purchased last April. Damn is it annoying. When you’re coming to a stop and it goes away, you realize how loud it was. Sometimes after sitting at a light for a while, it won’t do it right away when you accelerate. Before long though it starts. Can’t be wind related. Definitely sounds like something in the drive unit. The weather has been colder here lately, so that may have triggered it on mine. Not sure if I’m going to make a service request yet or not.

I have the same noise, 32,000 VIN

Mine completely goes away when you punch the throttle, while leads me to believe that it is not wind noise and has to be related to something with the motor. Or any least, with a rotating part of the front of the truck. If it was an ICE car I would think bearing or something rubbing a wheel or brake pad.

it’s very annoying and the service center says it’s normal.

Has anyone had any breakthroughs?
I picked my CyberTruck up on August 28th and first started noticing the sound around mid-October.

I also believe this noise has to do something with the motor. There has been a couple times where I've let off the accelerator and the noise completely stops. If it were wind noise, it would gradually get quieter as the truck slows down but in some cases it stops completely. To add to that, it doesn't make sense that the noise would only start when you hit a certain speed limit. Again, if it was wind, the noise would gradually increase as you pick up more speed.

I've also been able to reproduce the noise using a start/stop motion by tapping and letting off the accelerator repeatedly. Once I've hit the speed where the noise starts, I let off the accelerator, the noise stops, gently press the accelator back down, noise returns. I had an open stretch of road I was driving on where I kept doing this and sure enough every time the accelerator was pressed, the noise returned and as soon as I let off a little it stopped. If you listen close enough when it's occuring at a lower speed it sounds like a "whirling" noise like something that's spinning or rotating is causing it. As you pick up speed, the rotation become faster making it sound like a constant static/air leak sound.

The problem is, even though I hear it every time I drive, it's seems to be completely random when it occurs. I turn down a street and it's completely gone. The next street I turn on it's back. I could hard let off the accelerator and it will stop for a minute before returning. It's almost like it needs some type of build up, twisting, or turning to get whatever it is it place to start making the noise. Would love for someone to figure this out because it's driving me nuts.

Thats very helpful you were able to make the noise disappear feathering the accelerator. You found the sweet spot where no torque from either the motor or regen was imparting torque / load to the drivetrain. This is essentially the same as neutral test I mentioned above, which points to torque related drive train issues.

If a few more folks can try feathering the accelerator or doing the neutral test and share what happens, will help established a pattern.

100% drivetrain issue in my case and appears to be in this case as well.

Since the first time I noticed this a few weeks ago, Its been warmer in my area and the noise was not present during any of my drives.

However it returned tonight in my way home from work and it also happened to be in the low 40s again. Coincidence? Maybe.

I decided to do a little bit of testing during the short drive.

As it had before with my truck, the white noise/static sound started when driving at a slow gradual pace around 38 mph and extends up to about 43 mph. Once exceeding 43 mph, the sound basically just disappears.

However I noticed if I slowed down from 50 mph or so back into that range of speeds, the sound doesn’t return.

The sound for me only starts during acceleration from a slower speed into that 38-43mph range.

I also noticed if I give the truck a moderate amount of throttle , instead of a gentle gradual increase, the noise doesn’t always happen.

I attempted the feathering of the throttle during the noise and didn’t notice any difference in the sound. But if I went heavier then what I’d consider tapping or feathering the throttle, it would make the noise decrease bit during the harder accelerations.

The cybertruck, or at least mine, has always made a lot of strange noise noises (many of which appear to be normal) making it hard to determine if this is actually intended behavior due to some sort of process we can’t see, like internal airflow routing changes, etc.

Add me to the list of motor noises. Noticed it this weekend. At first, thought it was wind noises. Starts to make noise around 35mph and gets loudest at around 50 mph. It's there while cruising or in regen. With enough throttle noise goes away, but comes back once I'm off the throttle. Once the noise starts, it'll make noise down to ~20mph.

I was towing the other day and noticed the noise again. When I took my foot off the accelerator the noise went away. Made me change from wind noise to motor noise now. Today when I lifted off the accelerator the noise was still present. I wonder if it's got something to do with regen in the front motor as the extra weight from towing made it go when I lifted off

Mine make the same noise too. I noticed it a couple weeks ago. Doesn’t do it all the time though

I posted in another thread, but I'll post here too. I had this exact same issue since day 1 (AWD - 53,XXX VIN - 11/24 inventory) when I drove it home. My closest service center wouldn't help. I was persistent as I got to the point I wanted to sell it despite loving every other thing about it, so took it to the next closest service center. They agreed it wasn't right. Replaced the hubs, didn't help. Replaced the FDU (revision G if that matters) and now it's soooooooo quiet. Just like my other Tesla's and I couldn't be happier. I guess just need to find a SC that cares.
