Did anyone else get a Model S plaid as a loaner when they had their PCS swapped?
Not for a PCS replacement, but I did get a Plaid when they were working on my front motor issue. And an S LR... and a Cyberbeast... and a Cybertruck. Yes, I took it back 4 times.

They just gave me a Model X for the PCS job they are waiting on parts to install. Last time they had the truck for they gave me an X Plaid. Wild acceleration…all the way up to 85mph. 🤪

I thought it was absolutely BRILLIANT that they allowed us to test plaid mode, but capped it at 85. Obviously if they didn't, most people would simply crash from f'ing around too much. And of course having FSD v14 enabled as well.

But wow, what an awesome way to get word of mouth about your product. I was blown away, primarily about how the car is even street legal at this point, and priced super low considering what you get.

I can't even imagine the new roadster being literally twice as quick 🤯

I am working though various avenues to get the PCS failure covered. It was initially denied, and I have contacted both the local service manager and regional manager. I will follow the chain of command and take the necessary steps to get it covered.

It’s obvious there’s a major issue with the CYBERTRUCK PCS that should be recalled and/or covered regardless of warrenty. If it’s not covered through Goodwill, I will take the necessary steps to go through arbitration and take legal action if necessary.

I believe Tesla will do the right thing and cover the PCS failure. Anytime you have this many failures it’s obvious a great company put out a Cybertruck that I love with a bad / defective PCS.
Any word on your warranty request?

April 2024 foundation series… Vin around 5200

Also filed a report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. My local shop in Houston is experiencing around 3 to 4 PCS failures per week (and sometimes more).

Unfortunately, I am out of warranty and may have to cough up $3k to $7k to cover repair.

I would encourage everyone, even if you’re covered under warranty to file a report with the national highway traffic safety administration to bring visibility to this issue, which definitely warrants a recall.
What did the resolution end up being? Did Tesla cover the cost or are you out several thousand dollars?

The cost has been reduced to $1000 for the PCS replacement. I’m still pushing for full coverage and have filed complaints with several consumer advocate organizations (BBB, NHTSA, TxDmv. Etc.)… The truck won’t be ready for at least another week due to the pcs being on backorder.

I will stay with the process and wait to hear back from the investigating organizations. I’m still waiting on confirmation if the new Tesla PCS repair price for out of warranty PCS‘s is $1000.

I READ ON A FORM THAT TESLA HAS REDUCED THE PRICE TO $1000 FOR ALL OUT OF WARRANTY PCS REPLACEMENTS. Or this could be 50% Goodwill, which is what Tesla initially offered.

Wait—are people unable to charge both AC and DC when PCS fails?

I thought PCS only affected AC charging. When my Model 3’s PCS completely died, I could still Supercharge it for 4 weeks until my appointment (Sterling, VA service refused to consider it urgent). But maybe the Cybertruck PCS is configured differently…?
My PCS failure prevented any charging, AC home or DC supercharging. Inspite of the dash message reporting DC charging is functional.

Worse on the Supercharger, it did not post an error - watching like a hawk, it would 'start' charging , then switch to 'idle' as if you had not started charging at all. And kept doing that when you press 'Start' charging.

So it's PooPoo

Add me to the list of Cybertrucks with the PCS failure. Was AC charging from 61% to 100% in anticipation of a trip down to Starbase City tomorrow. Charging stopped at 83%. PCS failure. AC charging not available. Never dropped to 24A though. Oct 2024 AWD NonFS. 28900k miles. 41XXX VIN.
I did get an appointment for tomorrow at my local service center. For 2pm. I’m taking it in as soon as they open in anticipation of a loaner that I will promptly drive to the coast. Hope they don’t mind the 1000 miles I’m going to put on it in 3 days.
Update on my situation. Dropped off truck on 4/6. Awaiting parts until 4/18. Now “preparing”. I guess they got the PCS parts in. Supposed completion date now 4/24. Drove by the service center yesterday evening. Truck in parking lot with about 12 other trucks. At least it isn’t lonely.

I just got this error but it went away after going to a different charger (at work). Is it possible it was a charger issue and not a vehicle issue?

We actually just had a poll on this. Seems to be a high likelihood every truck will have this issue just depends on when. I had the PCS failure at 5k miles...Is this OUR IMS/Vanos issue?

Keep us posted on how it goes, screenshots of post warranty service /costs would be very beneficial.
what is your vin number range?

Ya. Have you seen the process for PCS replacement? Its not like its a camera burning out where they simply pop the old one out and snap a new one in kind of job. It requires disassembly of the bed, tonneau, air compressor, draining battery coolant. It requires specialized tools, and diagnostic software. Its a BIG EXPENSIVE job to replace a SYSTEM CRITICAL component! This is not a repair that can be done in your driveway. This is not something that should be failing! It is a solid state electronic module. There are no moving parts, there are no wear components. It should last the lifetime of the vehicle. If it fails its because it was manufactured with a defect or because the design of the part is flawed.

Wow! all of that for a failed MOSFET. Doubtful that Tesla could sue the manufacturer of the device. Thinking about ways to mitigate this.
1. dont drive far from service centers.
2. Avoid excessive heat situations. if possible. (DC fast charging in 100 degree F situations)
3. Avoid rough driving situations, off roading, slowly over speed bumps pot holes, etc.in case it is a vibration issue (what we used to call cold solder joints)

Do we know for sure it is the mosfet?
Keep this situation on the down low. We have enough negative press already.

If indeed this is heat problem for the MOSFET I'd suggest that on hot summer days avoid preconditioning. give me a fact check that preconditioning warms the battery pack and could make more heat on that module. Still would like to see vin number range on those that have failures.
