3D print mount for Uniden radar detector

Mine still works fine so i don’t think the bend is not strong enough. From your pic, looks like your layers don’t have good adhesion. Is it pa6-cf filament? Did you dry the filament before printing and anneal after that?

I meant looks like I’ll definitely need to switch.

Okie, i had same symptom when leave the mount in cabin for a while in hot temperature. Switched to PA6-CF fixed the issue. I think ASA filament may work.

I've never used these before, so how useful are they in reality? I'm never really in such a hurry to need to speed everywhere, so I suppose I'd never need one at all. But for those that do like drive like that has this actually saved you from any tickets? Or is the cool factor of being able to be like, "Captain, we're being hailed!" lol

I find the most value on the drive to Vegas from So Cal. On that stretch it has saved me several times. I’ve had it save me a couple times on freeways around LA too. Around town, I can’t say it’s ever saved me. I got hit a few months ago by a motor cycle cop with laser by my house.

My driving style is stay in the fast lane so I only deal with cars coming at me from one side. I go the speed of traffic. If that’s 70 or 80 or 90, fine. If the freeway is wide open, I go 80 or so. It gives me a piece of mind on the freeway. ??‍

Around town, I don’t weave, but I’ll go 55 on a 45. There’s a hill by our house and he got me coming down the hill too fast. 55 in a 40. First ticket in 12 years.

I don’t consider it a cool factor at all. I believe it helps on the freeway and if it helps once, it’s worth it.

This thread is pretty amazing. OP, hats off to you.

Since this thread is full of posts from those who seem to know radar detectors as well as 3D printers--does anyone happen to have experience with the Radenso RC M custom install system? I had thoughts about that one perhaps being better for the CT/CB given the stainless steel construction and lack of visibility for laser out the back for a typical in-cabin type detector but I'm not experienced with radar detectors at all and am interested in hearing what people think given that so many are going for the in-cabin option despite the stainless and lack of rear laser visibility for the unit.

Any thoughts appreciated (without hijacking the OP's thread, of course--just a quick side convo here then back to the regularly-scheduled discussion of 3D printed radar mounts ). Thanks in advance.

I haven’t looked into them (laser jammers) too much since they’re illegal in CA and I didn’t really want to spend a couple grand. I had briefly looked into the Uniden R9.

But yeah, that’s the best way for sure.

Where are you getting power from?

I tapped 2 wires into the 2-pin connector inside cabin camera housing. That connector provides around 15V which in operation range of Uniden R7/R8

Xometry has SLS and can order this as carbon fiber solid filled nylon 12. Will this be sufficient to be strong and work in high heat? (The truck will be exposed to out door temps at 110).

They also have aluminum 3D prints which should be sufficent but it is crazy expensive.

Do ASA if using Xometry which is best for a car environment with high heat and moisture resistance.

I’m trying the $20 Xometry Nylon 12 first. It should arrive tomorrow, so I’ll post pics.

I’m in So Cal where the temp is rarely above 100. Maybe a couple days a year. I don’t often park outdoors for a long time, and I plan on having the setting on to keep cabin overheat protection under 100. We’ll see how that impacts battery.

For $20, trying this first. We’ll see if I have sag right away. Find out tomorrow!
