Awesome write up and pics, OP!!

Think about all the engineers that spent countless hours developing the CT and giving it all these fantastic capabilities, only to see it a garage queen on 26" wheels and rubberband tires, haha!!

Your CT is living its best life!!

Thats awesome. Afew people have had the tonneau cover come off the tracks when jumping. I'm hoping they update the manual and recommend it be retracted.

For now, I'll live vicariously through you and the others abusing their CTs. I'm too cheap to damage and pay for the fixes myself. My off-roading will be at <10mph

Yeah, I’d do it in emergency or to get somewhere I really want to get, and at just a bit above old lady speeds.

I did like another report that suggests it’s very forgiving and helpful with reasonably conservative off-road amateurs. So if I do it sanely, it should be great.

Generally I max out on short doses of excitement; keeping reflexes at 11 is more tiring than it used to be.

Yeah, this was just a quick ride and no one was recording. I do plan on making a video of us jumping it though.
The whole world wants to see your video of your offroad adventure.

Why not remove the plastics bits (which we already know will be destroyed, from the first two dozen YouTubers) before “testing” them again…?

I’ve been testing out the off roading capabilities quite a bit recently.

We have a 4 wheeler trail with a good ramp for jumping. When I give friends a ride we take it over that and have jumped it pretty good several times now. It’s really quite amazing!

This weekend I took some friends for a ride down a minimum maintenance road in Baja mode for the first time. Drifting around a sand pit was a ton of fun with 80/20 rear power bias. On a straight stretch we hit several large whoops, should have checked the out closer first. After the second whoop at around 70 the rear end started to rise as the front came down to land. I punched the gas to try and straighten it out and keep it on the road, we veered off a little into the weeds and found a dirt pile that was almost 3’ tall. Needless to say when we landed a full 25’ later we were all pretty hyped up. Lesson learned to do better recon before hand.

I can’t explain the smoothness of all this. It handles the jumps and rough terrain like nothing I’ve ever driven before. Even the dirt pile in the weeds, it was a full send off that thing and the landing was amazing. No fish tailing or bouncing. It tracked really well and landed very level.

Lost the rear wind dams (the fronts are already long gone) and one wheel liner. There are some pretty good rub marks in the rear wheel wells from the wheels rubbing when we landed. The tonneau cover came off the tracks on one corner. The manual says it can stay up or down, I’m thinking it would be better retracted but I’m not sure.

I already had a service appointment for this Tuesday so I’ll get the cover and plastics fixed/replaced then.

If you haven’t taken your truck off road and drifted and jumped, you must do it. This was pretty extreme for sure, but you should push it in some rough terrain a little and you’ll see how impressive this really is.

My truck isn’t a pavement princess and I will keep driving it like a 16 year old in a Ford Ranger!

how does one go about learning how to drift with the cybertruck? is 80/20 the best balance for drifting?

that seemed to work really well for me. Find a gravel pit somewhere with a little loose sand and test it out. It’s a ton of fun.

Update. Just got the truck back from the Tesla. About $500 in repair for the plastics. Two wheel liners and two air dams installed. They fixed the tonneau cover under warranty.

We discussed it it’s better to be open or closed when off roading. While it might not get damaged when retracted, it would be a lot harder to get at if it does get misaligned.

Being rolled up increases the cover's rigidity. More critically, that section of the body will flex less reducing the chance of the cover getting off track.

But yeah, if it did get jammed in the spiral, that would be pain and might require sawing it in half.

Update. On Tuesday I was showing someone the extract mode, when the truck failed to return to medium hight and gave an error message about the air suspension. One side of the truck almost sat on the tires and the other side was way up still. I took the wheel off and found a few broken mounts on the airbag. It’s pushing up on the panels in the bed on both sides. Started a Tesla Roadside Assistance request yesterday afternoon and 4 hours later a truck came to haul it away. Keep in mind we are three hours from the Tesla dealer and tow truck service. Very impressive service!
Now to have the dealer do a full inspection and see what needs to be replaced.
Since Elon likes the iterative process. He makes it, I jump it and break it and then he fixes it.
