Nissan just stopped investing in the Leaf (the CEO in prison thing sort of changed their priorities).

Nissan CEO potential going to prison had nothing to do with it. That problem did not happen until Nov 2018. Ghosn was arrested after landing in Japan on Nov. 19, 2018, and charged with alleged financial misconduct during his time at the helm of Nissan.

Nissan had from 2010 - end of 2018 where they did barely any improvements to Leaf.
Tesla went from nothing to shipping much superior products like Model S, Model X, Model 3, all years before Nov. 19, 2018.

Nissan's latest EV, Ariya, coming in 2022 still does not even seem competitive to 2017 Tesla Model 3.

Ghosen was pushing the Ariya before he was arrested and it was side-lined when he crawled into a box and was smuggled out of Japan. He was one of the few auto execs who took EVs seriously… more so than Mary Barra for certain.

They were definitely behind Tesla, but arguably ahead of many of the others an his arrest put them even further behind.

Apple did a ton of work to get the capacitive touch to work in a friendly way that we just take for granted now, but was insanely difficult and took them more than a decade (before the iPhone) to perfect.

It was totally revolutionary, but the revolution was software than didn't have a bad user experience more than hardware, yes.

But... you need still need to put the peanut butter with the chocolate, even if the two are already known on their own.

The Chinese is setting up shop in Mexico to avoid import duty. Just like Toyota builds Tacomas in Mexico next to the Ford Meriach-E plant.
