The entire us auto industry and the dealership model is a complete failure, requiring vast advertising g expense to mai rain. People rate buying a car from a dealer as only slightly less unpleasant than going to the dentist.
In Louisiana, long reckoned one of the most corrupt and backward states you can’t get your Tesla bodywork repaired by Tesla. The car dealers persuaded the governor that Tesla must be restricted in the repairs that may be made.
Tesla is an absolute accomplishment for American industry and is a beacon of hope.

So, I am in line for my cyber truck. my number may be called in 2024 or maybe 2025 based upon my place in line. I am a Louisiana resident and now being told (by media) that Tesla will not be able to sell to me directly.
Anyone want to take a stab at updating me with correct facts?

Tesla typically circumvents the dealership requirement by processing the transaction in California, and "shipping" the vehicle across state lines. Some states have actively tried to thwart this behavior, but IDK how the process works in Louisiana specifically.

Note that there was panic about Tesla needing to ship Cybertrucks out of Texas and then back again to sell in-state, but I've seen no reports of such shenanigans for the MIT MYs.

Tesla seeks to overturn Louisiana ban on direct car sales
August 29, 20228:26 PM EDT

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) has filed a lawsuit to challenge Louisiana's refusal to allow the company to sell vehicles directly to consumers, calling the U.S. state's move protectionist and anti-competitive.

The case is the latest battle to reverse direct sales bans in some states against the electric carmaker, which bypassed traditional car dealerships. In those states, consumers have to travel to neighboring states to secure Tesla vehicles.

Tesla claimed Louisiana officials have violated state and federal antitrust laws by barring direct sales since 2017 and trying to restrict the leasing and servicing of its cars in Louisiana.

"Louisiana consumers' freedom is being unduly restricted by protectionist, anti-competitive and inefficient state regulation," according to the lawsuit, which was filed on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Tesla accused Louisiana dealers, dealer association and some members of the Motor Vehicle Commission of entering an "unlawful conspiracy to bar Tesla from doing business in Louisiana."

In 2016, Tesla also sued Michigan for the state's direct sales ban and reached a settlement in 2020 under which Tesla can have its cars serviced in Michigan through a subsidiary.

So happy that Tesla is pursuing this. Thankfully it’s filed in Federal court so will not be subject to the tyranny of Louisiana’s elected judiciiary. Adams & Reese and the lawyer representing Tesla has a good rep locally.

This one by Popular Mechanic. “Too little too late” is their click bait headline.
Article includes the line
“the electric truck industry is quickly flooding with high-quality vehicles from legitimately well-known manufacturers”

What a load of crap from another pub accepting legacy advert $
I read this week ago. Facts are facts. Not that I’d use them that way but facts are facts. Welcome to America, where freedom of speech reigns.
No offense taken. Its media reporting facts. You don’t like their facts, come up with more accurate. In this article, the facts were jiving but not their slant.
Media has jumped on the “cost of EV”. There is a narrative being set-up for ”hybrid”. This PopMech article is another setup paving a segue into hybrid.
It looks like “Tesla EV” bad “Hybrid” better!

As a rule of thumb

An ad needs to repeat 7 times to reach 90% of its intended audience... ( something like that)

Tis the reason why Tesla's keep selling. These hit pieces are directed at the converted and are so sposmtic that they do not cause as much damage as we think.

Our issue is the constant anti Tesla narrative coming out of major news. This does confuse people. It is generated by the income they receive from legacy. Once profit dwindle, so will the ad expense.

Negative hit pieces will dwindle go away. Besides, the more time flows, the bigger Tesla gets , the less credible this shit will be.

IMO

but hybrid still requires gas...in californicate, mgf'rs we will be required to build new ev's at a rate of 25% of the new vehicles starting in 2025 (25%)...... if the avg cost of EV's now is over 60k, what will it be in 2025.....not to mention the charging.....we have been told buy ev's....now, two days later we are told not to charge them due to energy shortage....but we have had energy shortages for the past 45 years and had brown outs and shut down.....what does that all say about the grid.....californicate in shutting down viable power plants with no plans that I can see that will cover the demand........wind and solar are not going to produce enough energy to make up the difference nor are they efficient.....its a crazy world we live in......but we keep giving money to help out ev mgf'rs which only increase the price (ex: Ford, $8500, cost of batteries and pandemic)...crazy

The most pathetic part of the green movement was all the nonsense that stalled development of nuclear power plants - cleaner energy than coal oil or gas - we should have been opening 4 a year for the past decade…..

Bullshit!! It was not green movement that killed nuclear.

Exact same excuse Enron and others used in early 2000s when they created a shortage and stole billions from California electricity users, government and killed people.

Enron linked to California blackouts
Traders said manipulation began energy crisis.
Two days of rolling blackouts in June 2000 that marked the beginning of California's energy crisis were directly caused by manipulative energy trading, according to a dozen former traders for Enron and its rivals. The blackouts left more than 100,000 businesses and residential customers in the dark for parts of two days.

20 Years After Enron and Rolling Blackouts, What Have We Learned?
Part of the blame rested with Enron Corporation, an energy company whose brokers created an artificial electricity shortage by taking power plants offline — thereby raising prices by 800% or more.

------------------------

NIMBYism - nobody wants a coal, oil, natural gas power plant as neighbor either.

Costs - nuclear is super expensive to build.

Time - takes decades

Storage of nuclear waste - nuclear industry does not want to pay real price to store.

Bad designs, bad operation, accidents, natural disasters.
Serious nuclear power plant accidents & , disasters include the Fukushima nuclear disaster (2011), the Chernobyl disaster (1986), the Three Mile Island accident (1979), and the SL-1 accident (1961). Nuclear power accidents can involve loss of life and huge monetary costs for remediation work.

Do you really trust corps which give jobs to lowest cost provider to run plant safely?
When accident happens corp and executives walk away (after draining profits ) and taxpayer get left with the bill.

In the meantime, 100 people in the US die every day in car accidents.

How many are maimed?

How many people have lived shorter lives due to pollution?.

How many people have died of cancer?

We live in a world of BILLIONS, Its HIGH NUMERS> What isn't a disaster ?

What isn't a speech?

Don't measure from a comfortable sofa... measure from those cities where you can't see past your hand.

Technology these days is better than 50 years ago... Where have the accidents been since? Do we ban cars ?

Count deaths, quadriplegia, Cancer.

Those who sell you oil and gas totally agree with you.... Heck...they keep reminding you.

Coal, Oil and Gas. Yeah Baby !

You’re right, it requires gas and is the petroleum industry last, best resort. Any EE feel free to step-up here with the engineering principles.

They have a whole treasury at stake and they can afford the fight. That’s how I came to see the attraction behind “hybrid” as the multi-decadal “free pass” tool for burning more petroleum oil and gas into the atmosphere that it is. Hybrid is evil. I tell you why…

Evil, because regardless how attractive is the range and dual fuel advantage measured per mile – petroleum enlists you to enable him to keep doing its dirty work. Every hybrid purchased will run another 25yrs. on gas. As long as you buy the Devil’s argument, his pumps keep pumping through you and out your tailpipe. Into the atmosphere you and the Devil you rode in on are to blame now!

That’s evil.
