I've been lurking here since 2019 and have been enjoying all the content and discussion. I am a previous Tesla owner, have a sub-100k reservation and am excited about the prospect of taking delivery of my Cybertruck in the near future. I was surprised no one had posted this article yet. It even features ridiculous statements from a climate advocate who claims a new electric truck isn't appealing from a climate perspective and even references this site/community.... "How well it will sell isn’t certain, but one thing is: environmentalists hate it. " ... this article is ludicrous.

Somehow, I too think the CT is going to flop. Backorders were on fire, at one stage reaching 1.6 million. Now, after it's been exposed for what it really is, orders have reached over 2 million.

I agree with you. I read many of the spin pieces out there, and just shake my darned head. I expect lots of them are clickbait, and there will be more soon telling me how uncool I will look when I drive around in my bulletproof supertruck. Consider me whelmed.

I reserved a Cybertruck within 15 minutes of the truck rolling out on stage. The truck's appearance was radical, but not "ludicrous" as Forbes says , but I've learned that it's risky to judge a book (or a truck) by its cover. Being a creation of Elon Musk meant Cybertruck was going to be something special. I love the utility of a pickup and I owned a Ford Ranger for 20 years. When I donated it to the Salvation Army, I lost a true friend, but another gas/diesel pickup was not in the cards. I'm hoping that CT will fill that vacant spot in my life.

Funny, I really like the (ludicrous?) looks of the CT and the total abonnement of the "we do it this way, because it has always been done that way" attitude.

Claiming this truck is bad for the bad for the environment? I don’t care. Sorry, but I’m not sorry. I’m not buying a CT because of the environment. I’m not not moving to electric because of the environment. Yet I’m buying at least two of them.

How do you move the general public to electric? You’re not going to get there shouting about the environment. You’ll get there by convincing them it‘s a better car. And actually, I’m not moving to electric, I’m moving to Teslas. That is how you’re going to convince the bulk of the public to make the move. Make a better car, with no significant disadvantages, with significant advantages, and you sell more cars. The old saying “Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.” I’m buying a CT instead of a planned purchase of a 400+hp Porsche Carrera. This is a car I’ve promised myself I’d buy since I was 16. This isn’t a small deal for me. It’s a huge paradigm shift for me personally. I’ve been a sports car guy my whole life. I’ve followed Formula1 since high school. I’ve been to F1 races, I’ve taken lessons and qualified different racing “licenses”. I’ve raced on 2 and 4 wheels, and on wings. Yet, I’m all in on my move to Tesla. I’ve said it before, I think it’s a better vehicle. I can’t afford the same 0-60 performance in a gas car In anything near the same quality. And I don’t want to buy some of the crazy performance US made quick acceleration cars (but absolutely suck on a track). Any idea what it costs to beat a MS Plaid in a ICE car? I do. It’s over $5MILLION! I can’t afford a $5M car, but I can afford an MS Plaid. The Porsche has a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds for $140k. A M3P cuts that to 3.1. The Carrera S cuts that to 3.5seconds for an additional $15k, still getting their butt handed to them by a $53k car, just roughly 1/3rd the cost. To match that 3.1sec time there, I’m up over $170k with them. To beat that time with a Porsche electric, you’re over $160k. Will it handle better? Yes, somewhat, but not 3 times better.

That is how you move the general public to BEV. Make a better car at a price they can afford. It’s simple really.

We'll probably see a few 'hit piece' articles or content in the coming weeks. IMO such articles really show how much establishment and legacy auto are actually worried about potential disruption the Cybertruck will bring.

I found this one amusing, because I remember my grandparents reading Forbes Magazine, when I was a kid (do they still have a print edition?). It seemed like an objective source of information about businesses for investors back then, but after reading this it appears to be more of a very biased business gossip rag or tabloid. I personally relish the idea of all the naysayers being proven incorrect and eating their hats or crows, when a couple of million Cybertrucks take to the roads.

I'm actually moving to Electric because of Tesla and the positives that their direct sales business model assures for innovation and quality. There are many reasons of which environmental are certainly part of - but for me that's not the only reason nor the main reason.

That said, still IMO we should all strive to be informed and adept of causes for medical problems including cancer or other manifestations, whether they're caused by airborne vectors or other human-made methods of entry. That's also why I appreciate major benefits of zero-emissions.

I'm actually moving to Electric because of Tesla and the positives that their direct sales business model assures for innovation and quality. There are many reasons of which environmental are certainly part of - but for me that's not the only reason nor the largest reason.

That said, still IMO we should all strive to be informed and adept of causes for medical problems including cancer or other manifestations, whether they're caused by airborne vectors or other human-made methods of entry. That's also why I appreciate major benefits of zero-emissions.

That is the conundrum that all the existing manufacturers, all the existing second tier manufacturers, AND dealers have. They DON'T want us to get better vehicles that don't need even close to the maintenance they're used to us having to pay for. They have a good thing. Why would they want to shoot themselves in the foot, and change everything.
Tesla and the newer EV manufacturers don't have to do that dance. They want to prove that there's a better way!
So, now all these hit pieces come out trying to scare the public and massage them that EVs are bad. It's the same old thing, unfortunately for them the tide is changing!!!!!
