Any 500mi range updates?

Note Chevy is advertising a 400+ mile range. E Chevy will have a functional mid gate. The Chevy frunk is huge, but the Chevy looks like every other PU out there for the last 70 years. If someone opens their door against your E Chevy, DING! The Chevy comes in lots of colors, but that is paint over thin metal. The CT comes in only one color: SS. If you so choose, you can paint it or wrap it.

Everyone's preferences are different. For me, the following points matter more:

Chevy may have a hard time beating CT on price (we will find out) for the actual range.
Chevy will not have access to full Tesla network (only 12000 locations).

Paint vs SS issue is not a big deal to me. I had a 20 year old trucks with some small rusty body parts that otherwise looked like new.

Chevy's midgate is a big deal to me.

Chevy's spare tire is a big deal to me.

I actually have to sit inside both to compare interior. I suspect I will like the bright interior of CT better but if it does not block the summer sun well, I may prefer no glass on top.

If the price/range is considerably better, I will be leaning toward CT. If my charging is covered along my frequently traveled routs in 24 and price/range is close, will probably lean toward Silverado. If none of them offer much more function+range/value than what I have based on my use, I will stick with what I have until new battery tech with significant improvement kicks in.

I think I have resolved to accept lower spec CT (~350, dual) and review after reservations are fulfilled. I now don’t feel disappointed and look forward to later generations of CT.

Don’t forget, the motor is what converts the electric energy into forward inertial energy, and the regen. I think Tesla is ahead of the others in that area. So less power loss in the conversion and better energy recapture all leads to more miles per kWh…

it is more about the efficiency of the whole system. Batteries have parasitic drain due to their internal resistance. Inverters loose power to heat when converting voltages. Bus bars are another huge opportunity for more resistance losses. Then there's the drive train friction losses, and aerodynamic losses.

There are many many factors that contribute to tesla's efficiency lead, motors are just one. I think tesla's M3 motor is around 97% efficient. That is impressive, but most BLDC motors are already around 90%, and the average SRM motor is even better.

On top of that the R1T is also massively heavy, ~700 lbs more than an extended range F-150 Lightning despite comparable pack size (~130kWh).

R1T is a mid-size - about the size of a Tacoma. Dozens of them running around here in Reno. R1S's, too.

5 inches longer
7 inches wider
7 inches taller
it’s just as close to an F150 as it is to a Tacoma

This v2 vs v3+ locations is a point I raise regularly and may end up being a factor in what I choose. I'm pretty curious what the T3 will end up like. I travel through v2 areas tho.

The tri was listed at 500 mi

So, if Tesla meets the reveal specs, only tri’s will have 500mi.

If tri’s are a rare variant requiring long wait times, then whether Tesla meets reveal specs becomes sort of secondary to whether Tesla meets the reveal specs.

What we should be hoping for, is that the dual variant comes in above 300mi

Not to say you're wrong, but there is something weird in the R1t design.

18" longer bed on my Tacoma, only 8" longer overall.

Where did they spend that 10"? rear leg room may be some, the tonneau sure eats into it too.. weird truck.

whether you ‘reserved’ one is besides the point

the point was that when configurator opens, one can choose whatever variant they wish (regardless of what they expressed interest in)

and, if the dual says 2 months to delivery, and the tri says 12 months to delivery, some people will be put to a decision

Bingo - I'm in the same boat. 300 miles...or even 350 miles on a truck is like having an oversized golf cart. Needs to do what trucks do - carry a payload and tow up and down hills without a range pucker factor.

Oh OK I was not referring to the 6 foot bed Tacoma that comes in at the max measurement depending on configuration it’s 212 to 225.5“ in length
