I've already have the universal charger installed by an electrician.
Tesla just emailed the tracking number for the PowerShare gateway today.
Are we allowed to self install the gateway, legally in GA? Or does Tesla require it be installed/commissioned by a certified electrician?
I've installed our solar system DIY and I know my way around electricity and electric panels.

It depends on your local regulations. Both state and your specific power company. For instance I'd love to diy a solar install but that is just not allowed in my area. Anything connecting to the grid has to be installed by a certified contractor.

Yeah, same here. If it touches the grid, it needs to be permitted. Only licensed folks can mess with grid connectivity even if it might only, and very occasionally, touch the grid, doesn't matter.

Yes I believe you can, or have a electrician hook it up. But Tesla states it has to be installed by a certified Tesla electrician, because in my case, they have to follow certain guide lines and then I received an update on my screen to turn on PowerShare after they submitted it after 2 days.

I installed my own adapter and use the Tesla One app to activate it. My power share is in route also and I don't require a permit because it's gonna be after the meter and panel as I'll put in a sub panel. I won't know for sure until I power it up. Worst case is, I can always hire a Tesla electrician to come verify the install for a fraction of the cost to install it.

Let us know how that goes. I would like to do the same thing. Also did you have to do anything to get the gateway shipped? Or did it just get shipped on its own?

The power share and adapter was shipped directly to my house.

Because, in the future, I plan to put Solar tiles and they will not be compatible with the power share unit. I've decided not to install the power share unit. I will use my previous set up for the generator and i got a 15 foot cord for the cyber truck. It just means if we lose power I have to go out there and manually turn off the main breaker and turn on breaker generator panel by hand.

I will wait for something to become available in the store to use my $2500 voucher on.

The longest I've ever gone was 10 days without power and with so many Tesla superchargers in my area, I think the cyber truck will work.

Tesla shipped the powershare gateway to your house and you have a $2,500 credit?

@Ironalley
I just had my PowerShare installed by a certified Tesla Electrician today (his first PowerShare install), but we were unable to successfully get the vehicle to power the house when we simulated an outage by turning off the main breaker. It was late in the day and he’s going to try reaching out to some folks tomorrow to troubleshoot/get more information.

Do you know if Tesla had to push an update directly to your account after they received confirmation of installation from the electrician? When you mentioned the update on your screen, was it a notification from the Tesla app mentioning an update was available for your truck or the PowerShare? If it was for the CT, did it specifically mention it was a PowerShare update?

Thanks!

Yes it did not work either when we tried to Power the house when they finished the install, about 2 days later I received a update on the truck and after the update the powershare showed up in the trucks settings and then it wrked. About 2-3 seconds after the main breaker was shut off I had power. good luck ??

I thought the change over time would be faster than that, as in it could flip, without noticing a power loss at all. If that’s the case and everything gets powered down, then going out and plugging it in manually from the truck bed isn’t to much of a difference. I haven’t got my quote back yet, it good to know.

I was considering a manual transfer switch after seeing some of the initial quotes I received. Finally got a couple that were a bit more reasonable.
