I sure hope the Cyberlandr goes into production. Although I didn't pre-order one, I intend to purchase one if it's anything remotely like the proposed design. It will meet most of my road trip needs because it would be far better than staying at a cheap motel or sleeping in a reclined seat at rest stops. I figure for extended road trips or longer distance vacations, I'd purchase something like the Pebble Flow trailer. Since the Cyberlandr is compact and most likely can be stored in the garage when not in the truck bed, why not have both RV options?

A dedicated toilet and shower would be nice but not essential, but I do want large dimmable windows, security cameras, and Starlink internet.
Your chances of getting a Cyberlandr go up a bit if it doesn't have a dedicated shower/toilet room. That's where they really lost me on what's possible/practical.

I think a more practical conceptual design for an expandable hard-shell would be one that opens up like a nested accordian, with a pivot just aft of where the roll-top tonneau goes into the roof. This would leave standing room only in the very rear of the shell but would be easier to make structurally sound. When deployed, the sidewall panels would be triangles with triangular windows and the roof of the shell would slope steeply towards the glass roof.

The small size of the Cyberlandr doesn't appear to make much sense.
It sounds great! A tiny office, a changing room to get into surfing/diving gear, a little bedroom, whatever you need without dropping your range. There are so many trucks around here with wooden hutches designed to do just what the Cyberlandr is designed to do.

I agree, but with one caveat: I have built such a thing before. Three 10' poles, some lines, cloth walls, and a specially design 5 gallon drum it collapsed down onto (except the poles). I used expanding hose and a solar powered fan create negative airflow inside the tank and condense the liquid.

It was great! Except the risk of black water dumping, which was a pain.

OK, we will see. Although I bet it never makes it to market in any meaningful way. I hope they prove me wrong.

Yes, I have a Cyberlandr reserved. Now that the specs for Cybertruck are final, the people at StreamIt say they will reveal the 2nd generation design once they take delivery of their own CT. The Cyberlandr was one of the reasons I bought a Cybertruck which I should be getting in a month or two. There are lots of people who find the Cyberlandr concept untenable, and it's undoubtedly a challenging engineering project, but how wonderful if they can pull it off. I'm holding out hope that it will be delivered in 2025. My interest in the Cybertruck/Cyberlandr combination is for OHV travel without the hassles and discomforts of tent camping in my younger days. There's so much more of the country to see beyond our crowed national parks.

The OHV use case with Cyberlandr is an interesting topic in itself. Since the vault of the Cybertruck is consumed by the collapsed Cyberlandr, how does one accommodate all the stuff that camping demands? With the payload capacity of Cybertruck now known, I have some ideas of how this can be made to work.

The AWD Cybertruck has an overall 2500 lb payload capacity. The max payload capacity of Cybertruck's bed is 1300 lbs. The Cyberlandr should weigh no more than that stowed in the vault when traveling including about 100 lbs of kitchen utensils, some food, etc. The Cyberlandr will have its own small fridge, induction cook top, sink, dry flush toilet, shower, recycled water supply, convertible chair/beds, solar roof, and HVAC for all-season use.

In addition to the 1300 lbs of cargo in the bed, the weight distribution guide allows for five (5) 150 lb passengers in the cabin and 400 lbs of cargo in the frunk. For two travelers, which is what the Cyberlandr can accommodate, the space behind the front seats can be used to store 3 x 150 = 450 lbs of cargo. With the rear seats locked in the up position, and with CT's 90 deg opening rear doors, there's plenty of space behind the front seat to place a removable shelving unit to hold bulky gear like clothing, blankets, personal supplies, extra food, a second refrigerator (portable), extra water, hiking gear, collapsible chairs/table, etc. Half of that 400 lbs of rear seat capacity could be used to hold a portable propane generator and fuel when more range is needed.

It'll be hard to max out the 400 pound payload capacity of the frunk being as small as it is. I'll use it for smaller, heavier items, a canopy, tools, telescope, camera gear, etc.

If the final design of the Cyberlandr allows it to be easily removed from the bed, Cybertruck can be returned to use as apickup making the Cybertruck a truly all-purpose vehicle.
Hi Cybergirl,

Very articulate post.

I too am on the reservation list for the Cyberlandr. I think it will make the Cybertruck the ultimate adventure vehicle. If needed, I think additional storage can be added by putting cross bars over the back roof window and adding a cargo carrier, but I don't think it is needed. CT has plenty of storage.

I don't understand all the knocks on how the Cyberlandr will reduce the range on the CT. Anyone that has a regular ICE pickup and puts an overhead camper on it knows the normal 18 miles per gallon truck will only get 1/2 that. With the Cyberlandr disappearing into the bed, the CT arrow dynamics are not affected.

With how inconvenient it is to not use drive throughs, and the top-heavy dynamics if driving a pickup with an overhead camper, the Cyberlanr disappearing into the bed solves all that. Plus, you can reach camping places an ICE camper truck can never reach.

I can't wait to get my Cyberlandr!

Has anyone who received the Cybertruck also purchase the Cyberlandr? If so did they say it was ready to get with your delivery? If anyone gets one, would like to get feedback on it.
I’ve had a Cyberlandr reserved for a couple years now ever since they first unveiled it. I plan on living in it full time once I get it. I’ve lived in a truck camper for the last 6 years and also in the back of a pickup shell for almost a year. The features of the CL will far out way any camper/RV on the market. I’ve been talking with Lance (CEO for CL) about once a month for about a year now about updates for the CL. He hasnt told me too much details but he did say that it will be bigger and better than what we have seen on the site and a couple prototypes. The latest from him when I talked to him last week is that they finally got all the patents processed but now they are looking for a new facility because the one they were using is no longer available. The official unveiling might happen by the end of the year but most likely beginning of next year.

Since my last post here many months ago, I have also reserved a Cyberlandr. I too have sopken with Lance, and the design changes sound really exciting. I'm hoping he will reveal the new design in the next month or so.

We just gotta hope he got a new facility to continue testing. I’ll be calling Lance in about a week or so. Once I find out new info I’ll post it here.

Right now, we camp using our model Y with a good mattress, a big battery, some backcountry camping gear for reduced volume, a portable air fryer and a small induction cooktop. Oh and also a fridge located in the sub-trunk. Everything fits, but it is tight. We used every storage space we could find within the car. We can even boondock when needed (i.e. Walmart parking lots) without taking any stuff out.

I desperately want Cyberlandr to work out too, since I want something EV planform based but fits in my garage, yet I want hardwall with proper HVAC without propane. I need more space than what my Model Y offers, including a toilet during nights.

But I admit it is hard to imagine how they can pull this off given the shape of the bed (not rectangular) and also the exterior back wall is not completely vertical, hence potentially wasting more camper length, which is already too tight.

I'd be very happy if they can prove me wrong and deliver this. I will give my $$.

While extreme I would love to see a cyberlander awake to a snow storm. How does it all collapse with frozen snow attached to the sides. The size can't afford great insulation. So that heat will be transferred making a giant frozen ice block that will have a tough time collapsing.

A true weekend warrior concept dreamed up that won't make it out to the back woods in extreme conditions. Or just bad timing. Travel the country for years on end. Ya run into an ice/snow storm.

I heard that Lance will be making an announcement and do a reveal for the updated design in the next month or so.

Cyberlandr website still says production will begin in late 2023. I'm getting worried about my deposit also!
