I know, you're all SO disappointed.

SS will burn you on a hot day. But hey; it can store enough heat to cook an egg if it's over 35C outside, just be sure to use oil. Small victories!

So it's 84 degrees here right now (3:40 pm). Just went over and touched the hood of my SS BBQ grill that has been in the direct sun all day. Didn't burn me, but not comfortable to keep my hand. on it.

Then I went over and touched the cross bar of my "Santa Maria style" grill, it's black painted steel. It was NOTICEBLY cooler to the touch.

Color me surprised, but I never had to take thermal dynamics in college.

Paint transfers less heat. The painted metal might also have less thermal mass, being a cheaper piece of metal.

But you shouldn't need to touch the car's skin in the heat. You can get white wraps if this is a problem. Or maybe just some vinyl dots where you do touch it?

Damn it, I can't help it... Was going to stay out of it.

The hot SS skin is actually a GREAT thing, people! Now that you don't need to touch the SS to open the doors, thereby burning a layer of your skin into the car, haha, there's really not much down side.
The high temps of the skin, relative to it's environment, will literally bake off water-based contaminants. Anything with water it in will shrink, and fall off.

Look closely at the mud lines, anything seem odd to you?

And in very cold environments, the same thing is true. The metal will be warmer in direct sunlight from absorbing electromagnetic energy, passively melting ice off the car at a lower ambient temps than 0C.

I'm really stoked! ??

Thermal Conductivity is a measure of how fast a material transfers heat within itself, and how fast it gives up it's heat to another object in contact with it. Conductivity plays a dominant role in the equation of how hot something feels to the touch.
Put a piece of plastic and a piece of steel in the sun, they might both be the same temperature but the plastic will be much easier to hold in your hand. Plastic has much lower thermal conductivity... and density, which also helps.

I don't know why, but stainless has a much lower thermal conductivity than other steels.

Meaning that at the same temperature, the stainless will not give it's heat to your hand as quickly, and it's easier to touch.

This works for cold too... I wonder if you could safely touch your tongue to a frozen CYBRTRK.

This is neat, hadn't thought SS would be that different from regular steel.

But isn't it still going to radiate heat?

So you park in a sunny spot, the outside of your car is about 150 degrees. Doesn't burn you to the touch, but when you get into the car, you are sitting in a small oven surrounded by a shell of 3mm metal.

This would make it quite a bit harder to cool the cabin in the summer time.

Usually I would just park in the shade, but since I'll probably pay too much money for the solar option, I'm going to want to park in the sun at least part of the time.
