From the article:

Wayne spotted the Cybertruck on the side of the road next to the Interstate 280 El Monte exit in Los Altos Hills, and a Tesla employee was working under the hood of the vehicle.

By the time he turned around to go back to the electric truck, the employee had covered the Cybertruck and abandoned it. This indicates that it likely broke down, and Tesla needed to come pick it up.

Now, before Cybertruck haters say that the truck is doomed, it is quite normal for vehicles to break down during test programs. In fact, the more you manage to make them break down during the test program, the less they are likely to break down during production – if you can find the sources of the failures and fix them.

Love the 'New Zealand Tests' sticker on the shock tower.
Just goes to show, if CYBRTRK can survive in the ruggeds of NZ, then anything is possible(!)

'WRANGLER GOODYEAR' Tyre from my reading of the inner sidewall pics.
This could well be the all-season 'road version'

I spent a month in NZ last year driving all over North and South Islands in a rented M3 SR. Where are the nice places to go 4-wheeling? I would get off the state highways and take roads less traveled; would find myself on logging roads most of the time.

When I was staying in Queenstown, I wanted to drive up Skippers Road with the Nomad Safari tour group as they let you drive either a Defender 110 or Landcrusier. Unfortunately they were fully booked and it was one of my regrets of not being able to do.

Also, anyone with a more technical background in suspension want to chime in on what we're seeing in advance of the Monroe Live video on Monday?

@triggertx anything you'd like to add since you had an in-person view of CT's underside?

I suspect you have TRI CT (X2) on order and l guess you share my wish upgrade to a QUAD CT____ perhaps it becomes commonly tagged PLAID(?) No doubt if released first, it will be the 'Talk of the Town'
When Sandy and Team get close 'n personal with the CT Underside, many will be SUPER Curious.

Now after seeing this, to those of you that wanted to jump in front of the line, are you still jumping? I am mighty comfortable with my 700K spot.
I got my Model Y 6 months after deliveries started and it is still an amazing vehicle without any issues. If I had to guess I would say I was one of the first 100k. Unfortunately they came out with a bunch of updates 3 months after I got mine so I think probably being around 200k in line is a good spot to have the bugs worked out and any new upgrades released.

Testing to failure is actaully fine or even great. IMO they should've had someone stay with it until it could be retrieved somehow, but maybe they still had a sentry mode camera suite remotely accessible, and were planning to pick it up fairly soon. Anyone know how long it was left out there unattended, and/or has it been picked up yet?

I grew up in NZ. The ruggeds that Wiz of Oz is talking about is no more rugged than what you’d find in the US. So I’d say most of the off road testing has been done in the US. They’ve only got them in NZ winter time now because the timing of winter there and CT release happened to coincide.

Already on my way with a flat bed. You will see this on eBay very soon. Gotta go
No, give it Sandy.
Good shot of the air suspension, so the can is only there to protect the bellows as you can see the airbag inside, however as this isn’t a production model these could be low tech conventional air struts with a can attached to make us think they are high tech super struts, and that can doesn’t look long enough for the supposed suspension travel.

Doesn't look like that rear control arm allows much clearance for rear steering. Be lucky to get 10 degrees. Why add all the cost & complexity for such meager results?

Of course it all could be an elaborate scheme to throw us off. But I have learned over time, I am rarely as important as I think I am. We are already in August. I doubt they put much in there, they are not planning to use. It wouldn’t be a real test if they did.
