First Road Trip 470miles - Horrible Efficiency - Cyberbeast w Cyberwheels

Was your route on a long incline? Strong headwinds?

It was around ~640wh/mi on the way up, ~575wh/mi on the way down.
The energy app said headwinds actually benefited my trip on the way down.
It also said that my speed is above 70 mph (at 78mph) contributed to almost 10% more battery loss, but that still doesn’t account for such a dramatic drop in efficiency compared to other owners on this forum…

I just did our first family road trip this weekend - a 470 mile round trip to northern Michigan.
My model:
2024 Cyberbeast with Cyberwheels delivered 12/24/24.
600mi odometer at trip start.
Rated at 301mi at 100%

Efficency numbers are abysmal. The trip was 235 mi each way - 95% interstate highway. Clean roads, sunny to overcast weather. Average temp of 25 degrees F.

On highway my average speed was around 78mph.

I thought I could get there without even charging since I left at 100% (301 mi rated - or 240mi at 80% winter efficency deficit) and only needed to drive 220 mi. But I had to charge twice just to get there: first 100 miles in at 46% - charged to 75%.
Then 120 miles later at 8% to 66% (wanted some extra juice at the destination).

Here are the stats:

avg: 610Wh/mi.
Total: 471miles
Total used: 287kwh

Is something wrong with my truck? Should I schedule an appt Tesla service?

Elevation change? Wind? Load?

Something is wrong. The 300 mile thing is a lie…some nonsense from EPA being bought and paid for be EV companies…but multiply by 0.7 and that’s the real range you should get with normal highway driving 75-80 mph.

Show us your energy usage screen- there are too many factors at play here. If you want better efficiency, slow down and use less cabin heat. These two are the biggest reasons for your efficiency after outside temp. The EPA rating is spot on if you drive mixed as they do in tests. You literally drove it on the highway basically your whole trip and at high speed.

Likely speed plus temperature plus not having been fully warmed while plugged in at home.

just to clarify here, do I plug back in while I’m waiting for 20 minutes in the truck?
Or do I wait 20 mins then plug it in?

also, that’s great news about BC getting V4’s! I didn’t see anything on supercharger. info about it.

You spend the 20 or so minutes in the truck with it unplugged which causes it to use the Supercharger level heating of 16kW or so (it's in active drive mode once you press the brake even through you can leave it in park). After the 20 (or so) you can leave it to charge normally. Going into service mode shows the pack temperatures.

Was it only one charge stop on the return trip?

Fully power 16kW preconditioning @ 80MPH is an extra 200Wh/mile while active. If you do a drive without Supercharging stops, you'll see much better numbers.

Efficency is definitely a function of driving style. My beast can burn 400 Wh/mile only if I'm driving in retiree mode. It will go as high as 700 Wh/mile if I drive in "Jersey cheese cutter" mode, blasting by trucks and doing close to 80 mph............. And my latest long trip 379 miles burned 286 kWh with home charging and a couple of super charging stops, driving fairly aggressively, plus I sit in my truck a lot during trips, which also burns electrons.......... I would say you're truck is doing fine........

That speed is going to kill any fuel source - battery or ICE.
What does your R1S do at 80MPH?

Really that's nothing. Put two dogs, a light SO, and 600 lbs of travel gear and ski stuff for a month of powder chasing.

Minnesota a couple weeks ago I pulled a hundred mile stretch where I averaged 804 wh/mi after leaving a supercharger. All warmed up.

-5F and 78mph into the wind sucks electrons.

I love how this thread tells the OP everything they are doing wrong, and to hit a supercharger. Not really addressing the efficiency or lack of.

I run mine @55psi. Even pull into the Canadian tire if I wake up at -25 or so for an air up.

I drive a lot. In the winter. The Cybertruck by its nature is going to suck. I prefer an S with snow tires. Much more efficient.

Seems about right for a CB in 25 degree weather going an average of 78, especially if you were going uphill or there was wind. As others have said, tire pressure makes a decent difference as well.

Yup, efficiency beast. That's why I got this. Pre-heat, keep speeds at 5 over speed limit, tires at 50PSI even in the cold. 3 miles per kWh is possible. Insane for such a large vehicle!

I rarely go over 70 tbh, so no, but I don’t think I would be too concerned about efficiency when I’m going that fast either.
