I guess the people who think free supercharging for life is worth $2500 must not be people who do many roadtrips.

At my current rate, I am on track to spend more than that per year in supercharging. And I also charge at home.

Unlimited supercharging would easily save me 12k over 5 years of ownership at current rates.

However, I've watched supercharger rates climb 40% at some charging stations over just the last 5mo. Two that I frequently use went from $0.25/kwh flat to $0.41/kwh with TOU pricing. This is in two different metro areas in two different states.

Free supercharging is on track to be worth about $3000 a year to me. The same people that are saying it’s a absolutely no value to them because they only charge at home and don’t go anywhere, I think, are a small subset of retired east-coasters who just don’t have a lot going on.

Below is just around seven months - averaged out and extrapolated it’s $2873/yr.

We’re probably not gonna get free supercharging and that’s fine, but to say that it’s an empty hollow gesture and nobody needs it .. is just stupid.

Their alternative is that it would bankrupt the company. ? To supply it to all of us would be like half a percent or less of earnings last year.

I want to be clear I’m not really pining for this I just don’t care. If I were King, however, it would be so.

Beyond that, I cannot tolerate bullshit in any of its forms and all of their arguments against are bullshit.

ā€œMan up and quit your bellyaching,ā€ is a far more coherent response than anything else that they have.

Count me in on the free supercharging tipping point on the last of the Foundation Series.

I have two kids that just moved to NYC and ATL so will be putting the whole thing to good use.

With the mileage write offs on taxes I'm very pleased.

I met two retired couples at a Tesla lightshow event this weekend that bought primarily because of lifetime SC. It's perfect for retired folks who like to drive a lot and folks who like to waste time DC charging.

For me... it's useless. I'd rather fly and my weekend trips are in the fun cars. I'd barely use $500 in SC per year I suspect and at current charging speeds... no frigging way would I road trip in the CT. The terrible charging speeds of the 400V Rivian R1S is why I sold mine and bought a Bronco instead of off-road and do weekend trips. The CT currently charges just as slow and I would not take it on any road trip.

There hadn't been many Foundation Series available in inventory on the west coast at all.

When they started, they had maybe 800 extra.

It is curious where the extras ended up.. a bunch in Florida, another pile in Colorado, etc.

We do know they did get a bunch of sales because of the incentive.

Do you have a citation? Tesla has always charged commercial customers the same as retail, and has never sold wholesale to resellers.

I highly doubt this happened. Rebadged or more likely debadged, yes.

that's not quite true.

You'll regularly see Tesla take in used cars and wholesale them, even Teslas. I traded in a Model S Plaid on my Cybertruck and found it listed by a non-Tesla dealer who could only have acquired it at auction.

As for new cars, that has historically been true - best we know based on public information. HOWEVER if you keep a watchful eye on your local CarMax, if you have one near a Tesla sales center, you'll curiously find new Teslas show up from time to time with negligible mileage (<100). Do I think Carmax is buying them at retail and then selling at a lower price? I have no documentation, but that would be quite odd for a profit-making enterprise.

For a handful of units here or there, you can make you own best guesstimates on what is more likely - all the remaining Foundation Series at every location across the US sold in the same weekend or they were removed from inventory another way.

Well, yeah, hence being interested in reading citations of Tesla changing their behavior! That would be news.

I’m still seeing 7 Beasts at the original $120K and an AWD demo vehicle with 1,825 miles marked down to $98,040 as deliverable. Probably why the banner is still up.
