As we know, there is always a point of diminishing returns in travel speed vs time it takes to recoup/refill that kWh energy at the charger. It has changed over the years as the cars and batteries have. I recall long long ago so may threads and spreadsheets on calculating the 'best' speed limit to travel the 'fastest'. At one point in time it was ~72 mph.
.
It was definitely non-intuitive for me to begin with.

Yea, "Back when the concept was first introduced..." Superchargers were well over 100 miles apart and there were no V3/250kW Superchargers. These new kids just don't know how good they have it!

Each model car is different. Very different. My S was in the 80's. Each charging ramp is different. We will see what it is when we have 30 cars.

Where in the "North" are you?
I'm located in Thunderbay , Ontario , Canada.
I work on repairing mining equipment. Cold is in my blood and I have the leather skin to deal with it. We are tough workers up here. And we hate Trudeau lol

Really warm weather today : 10 Fahrenheit but -32 Fahrenheit is pretty common

BTW the tires on the CT ARE not good for winter. Any truck including my Toyota Tundra - ITS a must to have separate steel rims with proper winter tires - all season tires are bs and should never be used for winter.

Also wrapped cars are a big no up here - low temperature will make the vinyl go brittle . I love the stainless steel look !

The tools I have available (free ABRP and ChargeGo kludgy phone app) don't allow for caps like that.

However, your 'out and back' to Big Bend National Park is the KEY problem area in your scenario.

1) ABRP doesn't think my '17 TMX ("LR") will make it.
2) But it does think the CT AWD dual will.
[NOTE: it does have an option for a CT AWD Dual *with* a Range Extender but it is broke making some illogical test (range and changing doesn't even pass the smell test). The internal testing of that was a fail.]

If you're going to a destination, there are usually plugs there.

Let’s play guess @cvalue13 profession. I think lawyer!
everyone already knows that ?

At least, that’s my educational background and prior profession - though all transactional/corporate deal work (ie nothing to do with disputes/courts)

These days, I’m in tech … co-founded an Intel-backed business in EDGE compute infrastructure for governments and institutions.

FSD is basically the most well known, in pop culture, application of EDGE compute.

I have two reservations (fairly early ones actually) and received and accepted one invitation. The only remorse I have, and it is small at that, is that I ordered the Beast first. And this is only because it seems that it might take a while longer to be delivered. I think maybe just maybe I could be driving the CT to pickleball this morning if I ordered the AWD.
Nothing to do other than be patient and grateful for all the CTs that are being delivered.

I had the same concerns and tried to pull out of the FS but was told by Tesla that it was either cancel and lose the down payment and place in line or buy the FS. (I cancelled altogether which made me very sad but so it goes.) Another person posted on here that Tesla told him he could just not finish the purchase process and he would retain his place in line. It is worth a phone call to see what they say.

PS We also have a Model S LR (2023) - it is a road trip monster for sure.
I am in the same boat. Got the invite and the FOMO feeling overwhelmed me. Out of millions of pre-orders, here I am getting the invite. How could I not do it? Impulsively pulled out the card and deposited my $1000. Just got the trade in offer for my $70k after taxes and after Tesla rebate of $7500. What was the trade in value for a pristine MY with 12k miles? $36k. My car lost $34k in 13 months.
No I am asking myself if this is insane and the answer keeps coming up as yes. I am being "invited" to pay and extra $20k to be first in line and get the crappiest built testing phase of production and being forced to pay for FSD and other features that aren't worth $20k to me. And this is coming from a company that I honestly just don't trust because of all the broken promises and shady dealings (bought 2 Model Ys last year and had daily harassing texts to make sure I would take delivery in December....why? because two weeks later they knew they were dropping the price by $20k. It felt like Tesla sold me two cars and then came to my house a couple weeks later and bashed them with hammers to destroy their value.)
Barring some change or variable unseen, I think I am going to eat the $1000 and cancel my order. I love Tesla vehicles but the company has been a huge disappointment to me and I feel like owning the Cybertruck will just be endless frustration and feelings of being ripped off when it is sitting in the garage a year from now still waiting for FSD and autopilot to be added.
It is a bummer that companies just don't care at all about customers anymore and it seems like the ones that make the most money off of us care the least.
Congrats to someone out there, you will probably move up in line by one spot soon.

I remember back in the day... (4 years ago) some people were ordering both beasts and dual motor, and then planning to take which ever came out first in 2020-21.

this is brutal and robbery,

that is why Hertz dumping the EVs, lose value faster than ICE plus Tesla price adjustments. i have been driving Tesla for more than 5 years, but I never experienced good customer service from Tesla or felt as s customer.
Generally speaking, these days customers are just a digital number in the books for corporations to milk money (except Amazon).

I don't know why anyone is even doing this exercise. The data is in its infancy. Kind of like your winded response. The splash and dash is dependent on the vehicle. One can't do it in a Tesla S60 for example. Duh. There is the dunce cap.

One has to wait till the taper is real and maybe 6 months old. I think they have adjusted the charging speed what 12 times on my S and 3 each.

Starting to do some of research on your posts. Some are multiple pages long and were created less than a minute prior to someone quoting you. How do you do that?
@cvalue13 is a ai robot.

Yep. I remember a flight school that took $40k from a Korean student that wanted to become a pilot THE NIGHT BEFORE THEY FILED CHAPTER 11. They knew what was coming and they knew they were stealing from that poor kid and financially destroying his life and they didn't care. At the time I thought it was the most despicable thing I had ever heard of. Now here I am and I feel like the same thing happened to me. Two Model Y's, $20k of value EACH lost just after purchase. And they knew it was coming, they harassed me almost daily with messages saying "please take delivery" as soon as you can. It got so obnoxious I got mad and told them to please stop texting and I felt like I was being harassed by a stalker. It all became clear why it was so critical that we get those cars right away. They knew they were going to have to do massive price drops to get the Model Y to be eligible for the tax incentives and they had just weeks to milk the customers for the maximum sales price. I felt betrayed and crushed and I called and begged them to do something, anything to help mitigate the huge financial blow. I begged for free FSD that I didn't even want and argued that it would be free for them and it would help add some of that lost resale value that they took from my cars. "FSD, performance boost, something....anything.... please!" I pleaded with a very nice girl at customer service who listened and made all the sympathetic sounds that she was taught to make and told me "sorry, no, there is nothing we can do" which is really "Sorry, there is nothing we WILL do, because we have your money, we don't care how much money you lost because of us, and we don't make more money by pushing a button to activate FSD on your cars".
