Try to be a little careful when ordering them. Many of the ones that I've seen don't seem to have the wire gauge to support their current limits.

The norm for LED lighting is 5v. LEDs want between two and five volts, depending on their make.

Which means all 12v LED lighting for has some sort of extra circuitry to bring the voltage down to what LEDs prefer,

Not quite. An LED only needs around 1-1.5V (it's a diode). 5V LED systems have voltage compensating solutions as well.
12V is often 10 LEDs in a series with some protection circuitry.

Typical red leds have a vf of 2-2.4v, blue and green from 3.2-3.7v. White has a wider range because they come in some weird configurations, but start at a typical floor of around 3v. We are talking about emergency lights here, so I'm figuring red, blue, and/or amber.

But normally consumer LED products come attached to 5v or 12v drivers.

Leds in general are only inherently 5 or 12v if they have a step down built in, even though it can just look like they are normal leds.


To OP, the big issue here probably won't be hooking up to the 48v, but rather if tesla will unlock the aux lighting button on trucks that don't get their light bar installed. Doesn't do you much good to hook up there if you can't toggle it, and it certainly isn't hot by default.

EDIT: For clarity, I'm saying the light bar wires probably aren't hot by default. There may be a 48v hookup that IS hot by default, just not that one.

Seeing that the last year listed is 2022, but the Model X is only shown as 2020, I don't find it surprising to me. But it's pretty much the same. Open frunk, cut big red wire marked as firefighter, cut here.

Tesla should loan out the crash-test Cybertrucks to the local Fire Departments so they can practice extraction and remediation techniques. Would make for a great informational video.
