I've been contacted by a different company than the one mentioned above... maybe we should make a spreadsheet for this too so we know what the general costs are and can help each other with savings etc. It would not be so much fun if a "benefit" we paid for ended up costing us 5-10x what the hardware is worth.

And do we qualify for the 30% Federal tax credit the same way you can with solar or powerwall install cost?
It's pretty clear that EV charging equipment and battery backup gateway equipment qualifies for the credit. So install costs should for sure qualify. Of course, the installers know that so likely will just add $1k to the bill and pocket that credit.

Also, if you do choose to not install the power share hardware and run the house from the NEMA 14-50 in the bed of the truck, and you have central-AC (not a heat pump) i recommend getting a soft-start for each condenser unit you have this will allow the truck to run those large loads where it may not be able to otherwise. They aren't cheap (like $500 each) but if you need AC it will be worth it https://www.microair.net/

Thanks for the feedback from everyone. Added a line in my original post indicating there seems to be more than 1 company doing the installs. Also started a list of installers. This far there are only 2. If you were contacted by another company let me know and I’ll add it to the list.

Some owners might have Powerwalls at home that already include a backup switch (equivalent to Gateway) - does this mean they won't get the Gateway hardware that they are supposed to get with the FS?!
Yes! That is my question. Is hardware held postage if you only need hookup?

Class action lawsuit waiting to happen. The fact that I've had a truck for a month that doesnt have the autopilot/FSD I paid for and that I am not allowed to obtain the equipment (gateway and universal connector) that I paid for is ridiculous. What if I want to have a friend install it for way less (I was quoted $4200 in Austin for the install) or resell the equipment because my house is already installed? Close to $15k in value here that Tesla is not delivering without an asterisk that I saw nowhere when purchasing the truck.

Make sure you do it in the safe way with proper interlock device so you don’t put utility linemen in danger.
well true and it won't be installed by anyone but a Tesla Certified Contractor with permit. Tesla contractor will be the one who also handles the hardware it does not get sent to your house.

You would be better off installing an auxiliary mini-split. They have some now that will run of solar and grid power too; choosing solar as primary when available and auto-switching to the grid when needed.

You're an early adopter. Count your lucky stars you are fortunate enough to have your truck. Most of us here do not.

the goal when it dies is to swap it out for a ducted mini split so i can reuse all my ductwork yet have the benefits of a mini split.

I managed to get the 3V gateway installed and uni wall connector before they pulled the plug on deployment due to firmware issues on the gateway. For me it has to be a physical visit to update the firmware before the backup feature is enabled. Once they start rolling them out again it'll be OTA updates.

Disadvantages of the 14-50 solution:
1) Currently there is a 12 hour timer. It'll shutoff and you have to restart it.
2) When the charger is plugged in, the 14-50 is disabled. You can't seamlessly transition from charging to backup mode over the same connector which powershare supports
3)9KW cap on output, vs 11.5kw

Not supported until maybe Q2 or Q3, but you can add a powerwall to your 3v gateway. In this mode the CT supplements the powerwall. Powerwall unlocks support for Solar and hitless backup. Powerwall also unlocks rate shifting. So eventually it's worth having at least 1 powerwall to supplement the CT. CT alone is backup only (like a generator). Powerwall alone has a major weakness in that once it's empty the lights are out. CT can drive to recharge and keep the house going.
