Read your story, bummer, at least you were able to get help via remote.

But, probably still best to always keep your wallet, phone, or both on your person.

Or as suggested get ring key.

I suppose you could have an "emergency code" that you could tap out on the door release, but then jerks will use "1 1 1 1" as their code and get mad when randos steal their stuff :ROFLMAO:

Which ring do you have?
it’s nothing special, got it off a random website, took about 5 weeks to get it in the mail, assuming it came from China. That website is no longer alive or I would pop a link in. But here is a photo of it on my finger, has a Tesla logo on it which is kinda cool.

So the other day I was out off-roading and my key card was in my glovebox. I got out of the car and because my phone was in SOS mode the car would not unlock to get me back in. Luckily I was able to activate my Starlink inside the car and then unlock it but no app
Commands worked before Starlink was on.
Isn’t this supposed to be a Bluetooth relationship and unrelated to cellular service? Can you please explain how this works?

Funny how I just used this in another thread and it still is just as apropos to this.

Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave Bowman: What's the problem?
HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.

Yes, there's a Bluetooth reception dead zone behind the truck. IMO, this is the single biggest flaw of the Cybertruck. I'm constantly stepping to the left side of the tailgate to operate the tonneau or unlock the tailgate. I have an old phone though, I don't know if the latest/greatest Bluetooth (LE?) mitigates this issue at all.
I have the most modern updated phone. It still happens to me at the back of truck open tailgate or closed.
Today was a rare occasion, I left my phone in truck and heard a special beep which topped me in my tracks. I returned to remove my phone. So that feature works great.

Simple solution for a lockout: borrow someone's phone, download the Tesla application, put in your credentials, open the vehicle with the application. Another solution is to borrow a phone, call Tesla, ask them to open the vehicle. You'll need some basic security info for that one.

Right, but Ford uses an actual keypad:

I'm suggesting you could tap out the code on the existing door release button, like Morse. No new hardware required, just a software update (well, that, and training people how to use Morse code lol)

I just now disabled Cellular and WiFi on my iPhone, but left Bluetooth enabled. When I approached the truck, the door button lit up, and opened when pressed.

I could not send any commands from the App, because those go though the Tesla servers.

Subarus have had this feature for about the last 15 years. There's a button on the rear hatch that can be programmed with a five digit code to open the car. Timing is a bit tricky, say the 1st digit is a four, you press the button 4 times and the car replies with a single beep then you go on to the next number etc. If you wait to long between presses or get it wrong, the car emits one long beep and you start over.

Recently went from a Samsung Galaxy S20FE to a Galaxy Fold7. Often had to un-pocket the S20 and load the app to get it. Have had much less difficulty unlocking the truck running the F7. Possibly even from behind the truck. I'll monitor a bit more considering this blind spot concept. But pretty much every time I was thinking "will it open or not" it has opened immediately with the new phone. It's been a nice little change.

At least on the iPhone, the Tesla app should be kept running (it warns you if killed). I suppose that means it needs permission to run in the background, as well.
