So here’s my question. What am I missing and how can I get PowerShare activated?

Winter power outages are very common here in the Olympic Mountains & I need to be ready for this year’s winter as each winter seems to be a little worse than the last due to trees falling across power distribution lines.

Thanks in advance for all your help Folks.

I’m in the same boat, even down to SolarEdge equipment. Because we have Powerwalls we cannot yet backup our homes with our trucks. I’m praying for later this year, as other have suggested is Tesla’s position.

I think those can do tapered output by adjusting P(V) and P(f)
May need to change County & Grid mode from "US 240V" to "US/Rule21 240V"

Helpful! I'm trying to test more scenarios and both systems seem to start tapering at around 80%, but my charge limit is set at 84. Taper behavior was not necessarily graceful and the charge would go on and off, with 1 2 3 kilowatts swings. We will see what happens tomorrow but the behavior at high power looks like emergency shutdown which might mean it doesn't like something in the waveform. Perhaps it's the mode as you suggest.

I wanted to put this post together because I had trouble finding information online. Here is my Powershare experience:
  • February 2024: Got 19xx vin
  • March 2024: Installer installe universal charger and powershare gateway. Backup switch wasn’t approved for use with powershare by PG&E, expected approval was end of the year. They allowed the backupswitch with powerwalls but not powershare.
  • July 2024: Tesla provided a year of supercharging for the delay.
  • May 2025: Installer wired backup switch and left it in a bag. A week later, PG&E came out and did the install. A week later, the installer came out to close out the install and take photos for the Tesla One app. At that point it seemed like everything was hooked up, but the installed tried using the manual override and powershare didn’t turn on. He opened a ticket with Tesla.
A week later I noticed that I had the option to pair my phone to the gateway via Bluetooth and then disconnect from the grid. I think Tesla enabled it after reviewing the closeout documentation and photos. I went off grid and it worked! It tells you to turn off solar breakers before going off grid, but you can turn solar back on when powershare is on. I attached a few photos showing the Cybertruck pushing power out, and then taking it in via solar. I was able to turn on both air conditioners and the truck started pushing out power with no delay.

The last thing I want is to add solar data into the Tesla app (I have SunPower). It says “Tesla Remote Meter will be available for Non-Backup Site metering and/or Solar metering in 2025. It is strongly recommended for installers to return to site to install a Tesla Remote Meter when they become available, as complete monitoring enables accurate data in the customer's Tesla app, and overall a much better customer experience.” On this page: https://energylibrary.tesla.com/doc...UID-897037CD-1141-4B7B-B912-EE0DA802B6E4.html

Does anyone know if I can buy a Tesla Remote Meter and install it myself? It seems doable using the Tesla One app, curious to know if anyone has done this.

I have a SunPower array and inverter (circa 2006) and a Generac generator and ATS. I have Powershare hooked up with the Gateway. My app always says 'Service Mode is On', and both our installer and Tesla were unable to get the Gateway to switch automatically when grid power is turned off, but I can manually start charging from the truck. This is really impractical as, more often than not, the generator would kick in before I would realize what is going on and manually turn on charging from the truck. Is anyone else in this situation or is it just me?

Sounds like it is in a test mode. May need to use the Tesla One app to exit service mode.

Truck released a year and a half ago and PowerShare still doesn’t work for Powerwall owners. What the hell!

The last I heard, the Powerwall update will arrive in 3rd quarter. That could be as early as next month. (I have Powerwall3.) It will also come with a Tesla app update with “all kinds of new settings” (I’m told) to adjust the precedence between truck backup and Powerwall backup. We will see what that’s all about. Whenever I get the update I will post here.

What happens when you have a PG&E loss of power during the day - doesn't powershare kick in automatically - how about having to switch off solar when starting?

When the grid goes down, solar shuts off. Powershare takes a few seconds to start up. Then the solar will also restart a few minutes later.

I was wondering about that. Maybe when using go off grid, it doesn't have the ability to stop solar? But in a real outage, the outage stops solar production and doesn't start back up until on backup power
