I wanted to share some thoughts that have been running through my mind lately regarding my Cybertruck Foundation order. While I was initially thrilled to be part of the exclusive club, I've started to reconsider my decision due to a few factors that have raised some concerns.

Firstly, the price of the Cybertruck Foundation edition is no small sum. As excited as I am about the innovative design and cutting-edge technology, the reality of the hefty price tag has begun to sink in. Tesla's promise of exclusivity with the "limited" Cybertruck Foundation has been somewhat challenged by the numerous invites being sent out, making me question just how exclusive this edition truly is. Another concern is the timeline for certain features. The included FSD and Autopilot features might take a considerable amount of time before they become available. Also, the charging curve not being as impressive as expected.

Considering these factors, I'm contemplating canceling my Cybertruck Foundation order. My main concern lies in the $1000 non-refundable deposit I made for the order. Has anyone successfully canceled their Cybertruck Foundation order and managed to get the $1000 deposit refunded while retaining their original reservation for the standard Cybertruck?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
Nobody SHOULD buy or overextended themselves to have a Foundation CT if otherwise you would qualify for a tax rebate (aka making less then 150k/300k per year).

Going into debt for CT and stretch yourself out of your mean, you should not be doing even if the range would be 500 miles. Or better charging curve. This is about money and affordability. Better or worse charging should never even come to your mind.

I dont think you will get any refund as a cash.

However, I suspect Tesla will NOT honor the Jan-March timeline and this will be a perfect excuse so you can ask them to use that $1k to buy more affordable Tesla.

You have contractually committed for non refundability.

Honestly the Foundation series is only something I consider to be worth it for someone that wants EVERY extra that comes with the foundation series, and willing to spend a few thousand on top of the value of those things to get it early. Or someone with so much money that 20,000 just doesn't matter.

And on the topic of 'exclusive'. Whether there are 100, 1000, 10000, or even 100000 foundation trucks...will people even notice? Except in close up pictures, I have to really look for it to see if a story is about a foundation customer truck or just a Tesla owned Cybertruck for testing.

Even if it was more noticable...people are wrapping their trucks and putting the foundation text on the wrap. I 100% believe that there will be a number of people who don't want to spend the 20,000 but still wants to feel 'exclusive' and they will just put it on their truck.

The Foundation series aren't faster, they aren't a different color (unless white interior becomes unobtainable), they are the same size with almost everything else identical to the normal trucks.

This is why even if I had the option to get a foundation series, I would say no.

I think, if you cancel your order you are on the hook for $3250 and not just the $1000 you think about.

They are clearly articulating by the agreement you signed that they are entitled for this amount.

I totally agree with you on this point. I fall squarely in this group. The FS has everything extra I would like, I’m one of dumbasses that didn’t lock in FSD at $7k and I really couldn’t care less about the FOUNDATION branding. I’ll add that I also don’t qualify for the tax rebate so there’s that too.
It’s worth a few thousand to me to get the truck earlier and really start enjoying it. Also, if I really don’t like it, I believe there will be a market to sell it in a year and take a bit of a loss but not take a bath on it! Haha. I may be wrong about that tho…. We’ll see!

I cancelled mine and didn’t have to pay that - though I had only done the $250. My guess is that this only applies if Tesla has taken actions to deliver the truck - they would have a hard time defending demanding additional compensation for damages legally and publicly if they don’t even have a VIN yet.

It has been confirmed that if you cancel your order you will not get your $1,000 back and you will 100% lose your place in line. Once your reservation has been made and you paid $1,000 you were committing to the cyber truck. There is no way to back out and maintain your place in line or get your money back.

You are 100% going to lose your $1,000 deposit if you cancel. Chalk it up as a life lessen learned the hard way.

I can totally relate. I lost a $1k deposit on a custom ordered 392 V8 Jeep Wrangler that I elected not to purchase when it arrived to the dealership 9-months after I ordered it.

Unless you can help recoup your Cybertruck “investment“ as a successful content creator stay away from the Foundation Series. It’s simply a money grab by Tesla.

These comments on this thread have been very interesting to me.

Lots of talk about overpaying, cash grabs, CT not worth it, etc.

I mean I totally get it. $100k for a truck is a shit ton of cash. That being said, I'm looking at this from a different perspective. To me it's much more simple.

If you can afford it and it brings you joy, why not get the FS CT?

To me, not everything in life has to be a great investment. Not everything has to bring a $$ ROI.

Somethings are meant to simply bring happiness.

Let me go out on a limb like the deranged person I am and mention something that comes to mind.

DOGS!

Dogs are a terrible investment if you look at them simply through to the lens of $$ as it relates to ROI. They are smelly, expensive, and a fuck ton of work. That being said, their ROI to me is simply having an amazing companion that gives unconditional love even while it's shitting on your carpet... Wifey and I can't imagine our lives without El Doggos in it.

I know this is a weird post but I like to look at things that I bring into my life in a different way.

Does it bring me joy? If it does, then I can look past the simple question of does it seems like a prudent investment/purchase.

Maybe the FS CT falls into this category for you or maybe it doesn't. It certainly does for me.

i have been thinking the same. they still say "limited" but obviously its not limited at all. I paid $100+250 refundable deposit, no issue there, but my question is if I could keep my original reservation or not. I got $5K FSD reservation with it, so do not want to miss it. any idea?
It was $7000 on day one.

You have not cancelled a confirmed order with this language in it. Also, the confirmed order actually lists out all these items in the first page and later refers in the legal lingo by definition. So, no, If you ordered you are on hook. However, it is Tesla decision to enforce it do to the language they used there (we may...).

I just cancelled the order with Tesla. They cancelled the order, kept the order fee ($250 for me, I ordered before they boosted fee), and the woman said (after checking with manager) we would lose our place in line. So we are officially non-cybertruck people now. Very sad. Had been very excited about this for so long (my wife especially). But the range and other compromises just too much for me. So sad. Wish we had bought an X when the FSD trade in was available... but we were waiting on the Cybertruck. Oh well back to GM or Rivian.
