Only thing I am wondering about is the frontal crumple some design and pedestrian protection requirements. It is conceivable the front 1 foot of CT or section before the wheel wells is mostly cosmetic.


For rest or structural portion of the CT I suspect 3mm is critical to provide structural integrity for 6000lb vehicle plus plus passenger safety plus payload plus towing capability.

Traffic engineers in 'Merica refer to pedestrians as "obstacles". Regulations protect the occupants, not the peasants without cars.

Yup, in America. In the EU cars have to be designed to minimize damage to pedestrians.

Luckily in Tesla FSD, pedestrians & cyclist are classed as VRUs ( Vulnerable Road Users).

I will be shocked if the hood and front fenders are 3mm thick. Achieving a five star frontal crash rating would difficult.

Understand, but 3mm is one thick piece of steel. But If anyone can figure it out it’s Tesla’s young engineering team.

I want 3mm thick SS to be on 100% of the exterior.
