Personally, 28 years of driving trucks and no known child deaths

Ah, so you’ve heard confirmation bias has no bearing on statistics, well done.

In 30 years of driving I’ve never been pulled over or been in a high speed crash but that doesn’t mean I don’t drive like a complete ass from time to time.

(Edit: I get internalised road rage and speed too often, soooo many years of confirmation bias is going to get me one day…)

I'm sure there will be a lot of disappoint if they don't match the capability and ease of use of the Ford Lightning and Silverado. That Ford "Mega Frunk" hit it out of the park as far as I'm concerned.
I will be using my Cybertruck off-road rather extensively, as well in town. For both uses, I'm glad for the sloping hood providing excellent visibility forward and down. Off-roading my F-150 is an exercise in guessing exactly what is coming up under each tire because I lose sight of the terrain features too soon before I get there. It really does make navigating tricky sections even trickier and less precise. I don't really like the idea of cameras because, although useful in certain situations, they require taking your eyes off what you are actually doing.

In town, the sloping hood will make for a superior driving experience navigating tighter spaces and also being able to see toddlers/dogs easier, they can move into harms surprisingly quickly in the F-150. I've even had to get out of the truck to check the area was clear before I proceeded. Basically, I prioritize being able to see the area I'm driving into over whether I can fit a large suitcase in the frunk. The Lightning bed is only 5 1/2 feet long so maybe Ford figured the ability to put large things up front would help compensate for having such a tiny bed. It won't for me because I'm 6'-04" and a bed that is too small to lay down in, is just too small.

People tend to over-estimate how much crap they are going to be hauling around too. The fact that the Cybertruck will have a useable frunk is a much bigger deal than how huge it is. I use the frunk on my Model 3 all the time for groceries and my soft cooler and it actually has quite a bit of space. If the Cybertruck is comparable, I will be happy. However, it looks like it will be even larger than that and legacy trucks don't even have a frunk.

I've been driving trucks at various times for a lot more than 28 years and I've never hit a child, dog or adult either but that doesn't mean I didn't have to take special precautions and be extra aware to compensate for the lack of visibility a legacy truck offers into the immediate driving space. It's a real problem and a real risk whether it has actually contributed to you hitting someone or not.

There have been no photos of the frunk. The prototypes may not have had a tub installed there yet.

The one from the initial reveal is the only one I've ever seen. Hard to draw any conclusions from it though.

It's one of the renders at launch. I don't consider renders to be photographs, though you may, and I apologize for the miscommunication.

All just short people problems. ?

CT will have persistent FSD camera vision and will remember what you drive over (including terrain!!) so you can see what is under you vehicle at all times, even without an underbody camera. Augmented HUD is also included, but only works for people that can look over the steering wheel (that's why EM lowered the bar with a yoke). Frunk is big enough to store all the spoils of GTA and some extra rounds. 4 wheel steering is to make the job easier whilst reversing. Amphibious mode for sneak attacks out of the swamp.

Technically, CT is a lethal war machine, either way it rolls.
It needs outside airbags with that fancy satinless exosketelon body it has.

Pickup drivers are 4x more likely to hit pedestrians than car drivers.

I’ll never again in this forum attempt humor by use of a well known meme.

before I popped in here, I’d forgotten to code switch into the dialect of nerdy olds

Anywho, back over to discord!

I would rather a frunk that didn't hide children from my driver's view.

existing tech has been around for many years. Cheap enough now ($-wise and processing-wise so there are few excuses).
ultrasonic sensors!
and cameras
and 360 degree birdseye view for slow moving (driveway, parking lot, parking, etc)

More than twice as many children have died from such crashes when vehicles were moving forward than backward in recent years. An estimated 744 children were killed that way from 2016 to 2020, mostly in driveways and parking lots. In the majority of deaths, the child was hit by an SUV or a pickup truck.

Over 5 years and statistically low compared to other types of deaths tho. ie. We should be careful about selective statistics.

If we look at SUV or pickup trucks than that has be compared to how many of those types of vehicles there are. If there are a lot more SUVs and pickup trucks then statistically they'd have more accidents. You'd have to look at accidents per type of vehicle per 100K or the like to make it relative.

I thought it was funny. You used the spoiler markup well.
