Understand that just because they have 2 million people on the wait-list doesn't mean they can burn 90% of them by jacking up the prices. Once those people are gone, they're gone. They will probably spread negativity about being burned for years and years to millions of people. You can't just burn good faith with most people and expect everything to be okay.
Most people don't hold their grudge that long. They will be pissed for while and maybe be the squeaky wheel online, going from fanboy to never-CTer, but very few would actually hold onto the grudge if the CT became an actual smart option for them to buy down the line.

Not to say they couldn't do some level of PR damage during their hating days, but most will just sulk quietly and bitch among their friends when their friends ask them where their CT is.

I say all this as someone who may very well have to answer that question after telling everyone I know for the last 4 years that I'm getting one. All I will be able to say is, "I didn't say when I was getting one, and it didn't meet my expectations yet, so I kept my trusty F150 (or I bought this used RAM), to hold me over for another 6-10 years."

here’s the continuing problem/confusion on this forum:

what’s being released on Nov. 30th may not be what Tesla believes will disrupt ICE trucks

the may merely (and quite reasonably) believe that what’s happening on Nov. 30 is the first step towards what will eventually distrupt ICE trucks.

it is unpersuasive when people’s arguments essentially assume that what Tesla is releasing on Nov. 30 is teslas first AND last word on the matter.

this is a discussion about Nov 30 release, not the end game.
Kind of unfair there C.

The reply and the implied sarcasm is targeted towards the idea that there are MILLIONS of reservations so let's go charge 20,30, 40% more because we can. Who cares if a million back out.

You focused on the ice truck disruption statement. Your point is well taken but distorts my reply to the original post.

I don’t exactly mean to be unfair, I think

if I may explain:

If someone says, “I’m backing out because on Nov. 30 Tesla didn’t release the truck I need, and I can’t wait any longer” - fair enough!

If instead someone says, “I’m backing out because on Nov. 30 Tesla didn’t release the truck I need, and so they never will” - that’s I think a misunderstanding by that person. Maybe they can wait maybe they can’t, but Nov. 30 isn’t the end of the CT saga and waiting game.

Separately, I suspect Tesla doesn't believe many will back out. Obviously they know the longer people wait the more some will become too frustrated or unable to buy. But because Tesla knows this, they’ve weighed it into their decision-making. And having weighed it in, they’ve arrived at an all-things-considered decision.

Other things they may have weighed in: they feel that on Nov 30 they’ll unveil a product that is so compelling fewer will back out. That they’ll communicate a path forward to future offerings that further reduce who backs out.

And, because this is a corporation after all, they may privately also weigh in the reality that - because the product is so compelling (in their view) for every person who backs out they’ll convince a new person to jump into their place.

Fair enough. I like compelling but my family has a budget also. My opinion is there will be a dual motor available for under 60k, but as you have shared it may not be a choice on the 30th.

Exciting times.

I'm seeing rumors on FB that it was 4 people receiving the same phone call, 7k for FSD, and 11k for the wrap.

Obviously links, first hand encounters, etc. not included. It's getting wild out there. Next rumor might be naming rights for your first born male child.

Dirty Tesla says the rumor is not true.

Note, we don't have any of our reliable people saying it's confirmed.

With apologies to the messenger, Mini2nut... That's not how inflation works. Or prices. At all.

I fully agree. I’m simply sharing the article, I am not the author.

Its kind of interesting how some of these articles are trying to justify a fake $35k increase using inflation but at the same time ignore the fact that todays price of the Model Y and Model 3 are pretty much where they launched at.

Trust me on one thing. Once you see your first Cybertruck in the flesh you won’t be second guessing the MSRP. You will be thinking how can I adjust my finances or lifestyle to afford one.

Can I subside on Ramen noodles everyday? Sell my house and live in a tiny home? Give up ….? It’s just so cool looking in person. The 2D photos and videos don’t do it justice.

I’m still shocked that Tesla actually followed through after 4 long years and a production version is only a month away.

I thought for the sure that a production version would be canned because of complexity, government regulation, polarizing styling, DOT rules that had to be followed, etc.

The production version is amazingly close to the concept truck that debuted in late 2019. The only noticeable styling change is the stubbier front end.

I would love a Model X and I can easially afford one but its not worth 40K more then a MY. I don't mind spending for quality but it needs to be justified..

This 100%...

As much as I love the look of the CT I'll only pay up to 80k for a tri motor 500 mile version, won't pay any more. With the SIlverado being sidelined I would likely go back to toyota and take a new Tundra which would last me another 15 years.

Since when did Tesla become stupid? I don't think they have. And if you look at this chart, you eliminate 80% of the buyers at $100K for a vehicle. And down to $75k, you only add another 20% of the public. This is the whole reason a $25k car is so attractive. Look at how many people can afford it!

So how does introducing a BEV that 75-80% of the public can't afford move Tesla closer to their mission statement of converting the world to BEVs?

Let's look at the Q3 earnings call. EM said it would be 18 months or more before the CT contributed significantly to the positive cash flow at Tesla. Look at the MS and MX. Do they contribute significantly to the Tesla Cash Flow? Do you really think Tesla is going to spend this much money to build a truck that they only sell 5 digits in volume annually? Where does any of this make sense?

Am I saying there is absolutely no way this price is right? No, there is always a chance. But I don't see it as making sense to the company and its goals.
