Ok coolio.

So we get to upgrade the 20" wheel caps to premium., and buy some Beast stickers and we have a "Beast mode" that nobody will mess with? Sweet! ;)

All worth it then after all. ?

Some great details on this two part 'hub cap'
i havent watched

does he mention how those installment rings might scratch up the wheels?

I'm not saying it to piss in cheerios, but instead because if i were receiving one of these soon i would be deciding whether i want the wheels showing, or the hubcaps showing, until someone else lives and learns through whether the wheel finish holds up after a few thousand miles

Well, not posted on Tesla website about these specs but looks like somewhere else. I'll be one happy camper for both front and rear locking diffs on my 2019 ordered Dual. Much needed where I live and a life saver. Makes any vehicle a real 4 wheel drive.

I'm really curious how the truck pull of the AWD Dual vs the AWD Tri/Beast would come out in this regard:
  • AWD Tri/Beast: front locker + torque_vectoring
  • AWD Dual with front & rear lockers
I know a truck pull is a little gimmicky for the presentation but I've watched a few in real life and of other EV trucks. WOW, that is an impressive difference.

I hear you. Would be interesting. It comes down to traction and power. Having both different with lockers is a huge advantage.

I’ve not yet driven in a cyberbeast, but those who have say it’s bananas

the AWD I have driven in, and it’s launch feels just as fast but more grounded than my Lightning

personally, I find the Lightning/AWD to already be plenty bananas for a 6,900lb truck, with basic hydrologic brakes

but hey, money no object, why not buy a bigger banana
Need more info to decide. But keep in mind if the production will be low then the resale value for the Beast may be higher/better than the dual motor. Thoughts?

yes a base 20” rim and the premium 20” rim (which each have their own aero cover unless you buy the premium covers from accessory site, looks like)

premium:

base:

base aero:

the premium aero is the one you’ve seen mostly.

for people buying the AWD, will be interesting to learn the up-charge for optioning the premium wheels (standard on Cyberbeast)

PS: either the 18” is just vestigial code of some sort, or has something to do with this single motor variant coming in 2025 (Musk years?)
Thanks for the clarification. I could honestly care less what the rim looks like so long as I can get the A/T Tire and the better looking Aero-Cap from the premium wheel.

I’ve driven a quad motor R1T but only on the road, and with the Rivian guy in the passenger seat. So while I did floor it in sport mode I didn’t drive it hard otherwise. Didn’t notice any torque vectoring on pavement. But, reviews that I trust say the lag time and effectiveness just don’t match a true locker off road. I own a truck with a rear locker and have owned an SUV with front and rear lockers. Tesla’s SW may be better than Rivian’s, and OTA’s mean things would only get better, but some level of “traction control” like Toyota ATRAC plus switchable front and rear lockers would make the dual motor my choice. By the way, the terrain in the tractor pull is pretty even so a locker wouldn’t be needed if torque vectoring can handle minor traction slips. The locker is useful for low speed/low throttle when terrain creates zero traction for one wheel, usually because that wheel is in the air. The torsional stiffness of the CT is a good thing, but won’t help real world articulation, either.

I’dbe happy with 400 horsepower and 400 mile range, plus lockers. And a spare tire and onboard air that can be used for tires. For $82500 :)

The beast tri motor also has several additional selectable 4WD modes that the AWD version does not (such as rock crawl)

I haven’t been able to find this info. Do you have a source? I know the dual motor Rivian lacks some of those modes that are in their quad motor.

One thing to note here is the long wheel base puts the rear wheel further back in relation to the mass to the CT, and the CT is longer, which puts the front vehicle mass even further forwards. This means less front body lift on acceleration and more force being applied down onto the rear wheels instead of on the tow hitch holding it back. That's also why the F350 does better, because it's longer, just is missing the top end grunt.

The rear wheels are doing most of the work, but I'm not sure if the TM is traction limited the whole time which means the DM is likely slower with just the rear 300hp motor doing the bulk of work. The lockers would play a minimal roll, as both wheels are planted on a good surface and would have minimal variations between left and right.

This is why dragsters are this funny long shape, because the front weight is leveraged into traction at the rear without the mass penalty:
