This could get interesting for those folks buying and selling the Invites. Tesla say's "you lied, thanks for $1000 now go away"!

so this doesn't seem to be affecting already-placed foundation series orders, right?
Just checked mine and there is no affect to the $250 deposit for the Foundation order

If I remember correctly it was 2500 back in 2018 in the early days of the model 3
Yep, that is what I paid when I converted to an order for Model 3.

I was co fused that those ordering founders only had to put down $250. That is a weirdly small non-refundable fee to place an order.

Probably saves them a lot of phone calls .. some cancel, some defer

If you pay $1000, good chance you are ready now.
well, the $100 is refundable......the $1,000 is not....a big disappoint with Tesla...320 mile range and an additional 16k for more.......service centers I dont think will be able to service or repair within a good timeframe and insurance with USAA is an additional $1800 on top of what I pay them now for a Model S and 3.....I'm saying goodbye Mr Musk....and for those of you who will say great that I am leaving, it's only gonna bump those after reservation 46,146.....the truck that was gonna be "affordable" for the average truck driver has turned into a rich man's toy....I am so tired of getting emails from Tesla asking me to move up by buying the Beast for 120,000 when I had thought I was going to be able to get e tri-motor for $69,000 and $8,000 for FSD.... nope no more CT forever increasing price for me...you rich boys can have my place in line...good luck.....hope nobody breaks down within the first 5,000 miles

BREAKING:

Starting today, Cybertruck reservation holders will have to pay a $1,000 early access deposit to convert existing reservations into orders (once Tesla invites you to configure and order your Cybertruck).

It will be credited to your final purchase price upon delivery.

the $100 is for a no stakes reservation deposit from years back saying you are interested and to hold your place in line. $1000 is saying your order is coming up and we are confirming that you are actually going to purchase. Pretty sure I even paid a non refundable deposit for my model 3 which was actually higher than this $1000 and as other people here are saying, other companies have the same non refundable deposit on some of their newer models.

And while everyone was very hopeful for a 500 mile range truck that costed 70k...that was definitely a dream that I think any rational person gave up on years ago. Inflation is up and 69k for a 500 mile truck would have also meant 40k for the like 250(?) mile truck, I don't remember the exact miles). But Elon even said he wasn't expecting this sort of demand, this was a project that was going forward whether it was successful and popular or a complete failure. Obviously...it is very very popular. Which also means it has very very high demand.

That high demand basically means that he can sell it at a high price for probably the first 1-3 years and have no shortage of willing buyers, which will make the company billions more. That's not some strategy by a terrible company, that's actual business that any company will do.

I also think that people will go for range over performance and while it's not 500 miles. The dual motor (AWD) actually had a range increase, a towing capacity increase, and yes a payload decrease and a large price increase. But I full expect the price to drop 5-10k over the next 1-2 years. sure it'll still be higher but inflation has hit pretty hard and I think that'll do a lot to bring it to a fair price. Which the price is still very comparable to other electric trucks while (in my opinion) being the better option.

I wish the non refundable deposit to order was higher. Cuts down to unsure people that placed an order and don’t accept delivery. This will hopefully get the truck to people who actually want them and ready to pay quicker.

$5000 non refundable deposit would have been great

Sounds like takes from Peter to Pay Paul temporarily. Shuffle of funds

Money to help people get 1000.00 off of a new vehicle purchase, by getting $1000.00 from
Cybertruck buyers then somehow in the accounting world loophole get the funds shown
as even Stephen in the Tesla corporate world.
Tesla Cybertruck Reservation holders must now pay nonrefundable $1,000 "Early Access Deposit" to convert reservation into an Order (new as of 12/12/23) 1000
