also gives pause to those of us waiting for more information,l: more details online, more independent reviews, more test drives, showroom trucks not roped off, etc.

On one hand, I bought my Lightning sight unseen

On the other hand, the Lightning proposition was familiar by design

with the CyberTruck, even on this forum, there are people still asking if there’s a midgate…
100% this.

While I love Teslas and can never see myself buying any other EV, I wouldn't plunk down a $1K non-refundable deposit until we get slightly more information and more test-drives from other folks.

However, from what I have seen so far, the Cybertruck is a hit and they will sell tons of them if they can lower the price to what the original intended prices were.

I'd buy a Foundation Edition if it was offered in Canada, sight unseen and all. :ROFLMAO:

Make it more. $10-20k
The thing is, it doesn’t really matter how much the deposit is because Tesla still has to offer to let you configure before they ask for the deposit. If they ask me and I say yes then that money goes toward the truck purchase so I don’t care how much it is. What I want to know is how do I get Tesla to make me the offer!

@Skydog - random q, what do you think the non-refundable deposit should be?

Asking for a friend;)
I would for sure say $1000.00 this is a super special vehicle and not for people with small bank accounts. If that's the case just go buy a tried and true vehicle. ? Don't take that the wrong way it's just the truth if you can afford to lose $1,000.00 this truck not for you.

I think that as much as it being at a moments notice, it could also be the “with virtually no information, and tons of confusion about what the hell it means to commit or decline a $20K price premium unit”
At your hourly rate why would you care?

I think I know your answer, and I’m sure there are some others who are so bananas for the truck (or who can minutiae the truck on social media) tat don’t mind, but for people making more considered decisions let me ask if you think *this* fact pattern “doesn’t really matter”

• today, you put down a $10-20K non-refundable deposit
• in terms of delivery timeline expectations, Tesla says only “you may receive the truck in a week or in 6 months”
• implicitly, Tesla says “no matter what you learn about the truck before you take delivery, be it tomorrow or 179 days from now, there’s no getting your $10-20K back”
• implicitly, Tesla says “also, if you turn down this offer for the Foundation unit, we will not say or commit to whether you can later order a normal retail unit”

Maybe not for you, maybe not for social media influencers who plan to monetize their early units, maybe not for the wealthiest, or most foolhardy (eg people who’s car payment will be more than their rent)

but for the reasonable, fat-part, of the bell curve of potential buyers of Foundarion units?

you really think it “doesn’t matter”?

This may be uncomfortable for you to hear, but unlike many (apparently) on this forum, I *also* care about others who are enthusiasts

the level and frequency of posters with a “f*ck everyone else, give ME *MY* truck and get out of the way, you poors!” is … expectedly disappointing

I don’t get this ‘rich person’ statement people keep making. By any guess I will have been saving for my next vehicle for 7 years before I get it, maybe longer, and I got another year of savings selling my last car. Ten thousand dollars a year is only a little more than I was paying on my last car loan. What I hear people saying is that they didn’t do any saving and only a rich person could write a $100K check. Yes, I agree with that last part but at least for me that isn’t the way it will be; I will transfer the funds from one place (most likely the Tesla stock I bought) to another. Definitely ’not’ rich!

I care about others but no one here is speaking for others. We are speaking our thoughts and, believing that we cannot be alone, pull potential others along with us.

The question remains, if you have waited over 4 years for something (and how many purchases have ‘any’ of us waited over 4 years for), and given what we ‘have’ seen or experienced with Tesla and Tesla vehicles, are we going to buy or not?

You are the one that got me to deal with my frustration of the ‘not’ $70K and ‘not’ 500 miles, but I did get over it. Now I am ready. I do not think that I am alone.

This is an interesting development, I wonder if folks have been having second thoughts and cancelling their recent order? Not sure why else they would increase the deposit to secure the order.
If you go to order any teals you will need to pay a $250 nonrefundable order fee that dose not go towards your bill. so WATS the fuss?

That sucks. I had a Model Y on order last year and paid $250 to order. Most importantly that was refundable, which is good because I had to cancel due to family things.
Switching that to non refundable changes things
