I believe Tesla is actually including plastic "blanks" that fill the hole. I remember seeing rectangular plates in the glove box in the Out of Spec video from the delivery event. He noticed them but didn't comment on them.
Those blanks are the covers for the anchor points in the bed. They are removed to install the anchors.

Working on it. Simple file if anyone wants it when done.

3D print a plate with a Tesla or Cybertruck logo on it, to cover the hole up. Easy peasy :geek:
Tesla will have a solution.

Way that trim works, it’s supposed to be easily removed - and Tesla won’t miss a chance for an OEM $2 part that costs $45 ?

I hope the solution accounts for some nice overlap and a tight fit because you don't want rain and wintery frozen water getting in there. Wires should be capped I supposed.

Of course, now that I say the above parts of the inside of the door are made to get wet because the windows are just a moderate seal and rain would get in ... as well as "rolling" your window up and down. Just not sure of that part of the door expected to be wet.

As of October 2023, there is no federal law in the United States that requires all cars to have side mirrors. However, all 50 states have individual laws and regulations concerning side mirrors on vehicles. Here's a breakdown of the different categories:

States Requiring at Least One Side Mirror:
  • 42 states: These states require at least one side mirror, typically the driver's side, to be present and functional on any vehicle while it is being operated on public roads. Examples include California, New York, Florida, and Texas.
  • 4 states with exceptions: These states require at least one side mirror, but have specific exceptions for certain types of vehicles. For instance, Maine and Mississippi allow some older vehicles to operate without side mirrors if they have a clear rear view from the center mirror.
  • 4 states with unclear laws: The laws in these states are not entirely clear on whether one side mirror is mandatory. It's best to consult with local authorities or a motor vehicle department for definitive guidance. These states include Alaska, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
States Requiring Two Side Mirrors:
  • 7 states: These states require all vehicles to have two side mirrors, one on each side. These states include Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Additional Considerations:
  • Some states have specific regulations regarding the placement, size, and type of side mirrors allowed on vehicles.
  • Certain vehicle types, like motorcycles, may have separate mirror requirements.
  • It's always best to double-check the specific laws and regulations in your state to ensure your vehicle meets all safety requirements.
If you're unsure about the mirror requirements in your state, you can always contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for clarification.

Sadly in California I will have to keep them on, well just one on the driver's side, but that would look stupid with one missing.
Maybe someone or TESLA will come up with a small camera to go into that hole..and be able to transmit that video feed to a better rear view mirror. Heck, while I'm on the topic, also need another camera feed from a rear camera to use when the vault is closed. I know already there is a feed on the screen.. My idea is better ?

Etron's in Europe have a camera option..

I'll use some wing profile and 3d print a replacement to mount the additional cameras that will feed to a couple extra monitors that will sit on the sides (so they will be about where I'm used to looking) And no, they won't be CA compliant. But I'll save the mirrors if I get a fix-it ticket. I've posted these monitors before...

There are quite a few things that CA requires that tons of people ignore, tinting the driver and front passenger windows, front license plates, exhaust modifications, and the list goes on...

I don’t think removing them is ideal. Camera vision sucks when it rains.

As for the hole covers, they have to be stainless. A black square would look terrible I think.

Then someone buys it. Scans it. Sculpt prints the mold and voila...$19.50 later...money maker!
You doubt how much people will pay to have an OEM thing even when other less expensive thing exists to perform the same function?

can I introduce you to…

I doubt Tesla sells a part made for removing side mirrors.
you doubt it based on what?

As the OEM Tesla cannot do that. Per NTHS regs mirrors are required and OEM cannot design for their removal.
*pretty* sure that’s an incorrect take…

That's not how the rules work. DOT and NHTSA rules don't stop them from offering variants for different states or offroad or storage. They just need to meet the rules in the state they're delivered to at the time.
