I didn't see the use-case that caused this but the tweet was:

NOTE: I could not find in service or user manual

Kyle Conner @itskyleconner
Hmmmm sorry for using my truck ?

interesting... would you say you use it "above average"? I can't imagine it being a legit error - you've probably not had your vehicle that long.....

See he is back to the break it way of exploring trucks. I get it. Yet somehow I don't.
Great way to creat content for your channel. Break something then talk for an hour about what you did and how it’s Teslas fault.

So I barely had my truck for a week and the first three days it was in in the shop to get the cover fixed. They finally figured out what the issue was and fixed it but now I’m having the issue again. Apparently, Tesla did not learn from Rivian’s issues with their cover.

Rivian still has 1 motor so the comparison is inaccurate. Tesla has 2 as EPC image below shows.

FWIW this is not too unusual for low duty-cycle motors. Your window motors will do the same thing if you try and roll the windows up and down too many times in a row.

Same issues that Rivian had. It would start to roll down then stop roll back up partly and then stop again. When it does close it’s off by about half inch or so now it’s currently stopped and won’t move at all with about 4 inches opened. This will be the second time in 10 days in the shop.

Well, in my case, all I did was open it halfway and then attempt to close it. It stopped moved up a couple inches then stopped again. Then I hit the close button again and it stopped and gave me the error. I’m betting there’s some kind of mechanical issue with it because it shouldn’t heat up the motor for that or else the system is useless if you can’t open and close it once.

This isn’t that unusual. These types of motors have rated duty cycles as @scottf200 mentioned. I remember reading a warning about it for my 2018 Santa Fe, so I pulled up that manual, and here’s what it says:

CAUTION
Operating the power liftgate (power tailgate) more than 5 times continuously could cause damages to the operating motor. In this case, the system enters into a thermal protection mode. In thermal protection mode, the power liftgate (power tailgate) can not operate and the chime will sound for 3 times by any switch inputs. Leave your power liftgate (power tailgate) system for rest about 1 minute and then operate.
I bet a lot of car manuals have a warning like this, but people rarely read the manual, and most cars won’t pop up a warning on the screen to tell you about it, so most people will never know that you aren’t supposed to just open and close your liftgate or tonneau a bunch of times back to back.
