Oh my… one of my boys would definitely do this shit. Selfishly glad this happened to you so I can now be on the lookout ?
I used to laugh at friends and neighbors when their boys were doing things like this in between knocking the snot out of each other with sticks, while my daughter and her friends were sitting nicely having a tea party.

Now that I have a 17 year old daughter, guess who is laughing?

Neither of us are.

does opening the aero flap give you any additional access to see down there? I don't have mine yet to check, but from the Basecamp videos I've seen, it looks like it might.
I think i know what you mean by the aero flap, but that is when the cover is open i think, where it would possibly be helpful. But i cannot open it as it will damage one or both the iPad/tonneau cover.

Can you send me that video? I’m not sure what you mean.
Check this out, but now that I see it again, it seems that the cover might need to be in the open position to access anything (this seems to be step 1 in the service manual for anything with the cover also)

it CAN be opened. Looking at the service manual is key. The service center should be able to get in there, though someone will have to crawl into the vault to do it…

I’m sure there’s also a way to just remove the tonneau cover by sliding it out over the tailgate. They must be able to do this to replace it or fix any damage.

That is a feature (contraband secure storage), not a bug ...
Clever boy to have discovered it. :)

Thanks, which part of the service manual did you see this?
And we cannot open the cover unfortunately so right, it’s going to either be impossible, or a nightmare.

I wonder if you remove the bed floor if that gives full access to that well.

He sat it up there, it was dark as the cover was closed and is slipped right down. Not his finest moment. And yes that schematic is what i saw and realized this can be horrific.
I am more confused lol. I don’t see how it could be shoved in with the cover closed let alone just sitting it on top of the cover and it make it in there.

A YouTuber has been doing Cybertruck disassembly videos, including this one where he removed the bed sidewall, and you can see the tonneau mechanism:

The honeycomb area at the bottom is where the tonneau coils up, so that would be "down" in pretty much any image.

Looks like the iPad stopped at the bottom bend, so its not too far below the lip. It can be fished out, but I doubt grabbers or magnets will be strong enough, you'll need tape or something sticky.

I suggest you wedge a prop stick under tonneau at the back window to prevent accidental activation. The resistance should cause the motors to immediately reverse. (Normally I would say "pull the fuse" but that's not really a thing anymore lol)

This is a bad scenario. While cover was closed he dropped his iPad down the slit where the cover rolls back into. We cannot see it as it went probably to the base of the well. I’m terrified to hear what it will involve to retrieve it. We cannot use the cover now as something will get damaged for sure.
Anyone else drop something down there?

I’m sure I’ll get replies that I’m “screwed”.
Kid: “Dad I dropped my iPad down the slit”
Dad: “ok you’re grounded”
Kid: “ok how long- 1 day? 2 days?”
Dad: “no - for as long as I’ve waited for the truck since reserving it”….
