This felt like its always been Vaporware to me.. Especially when we found out how much room for Cells still exist in the current battery pack. I believe Sandy Munroe did a teardown of the battery pack and claimed it was only half full.

I heard Lars say the extra void space is on the bottom of the battery pack for two safety features. The first is to protect the battery from a strong impact, such as off-roading or a bad accident. The second is to protect the cells from any water that might find its way into the pack.

Did you actually watch that video, or the video of Tesla saying why that space is there? That space is for safety and will never be filled with cells.

But it is so much easier to come up with conspiracy theories than the truth.

I did reserve one but I agree that there were no details at the time and it felt risky. I wasn’t worried about my $500 but about the final price, specs, etc.

It was talked about and shown in this video teardown before Munroes.
Less than half full and seemingly done for safety and not pack expansion since no room for cooling and another group of cells.

It's not a conspiracy theory. It's a small spec of hope that we'll get a battery swap. Highly unlikely based on the reasons previously listed. BUT it would be sweet . Perpetual optimism.

You can put in longer cells and still have clearance. 110mm cells (30 mm longer) would give the 40% range boost of the extender.

Hoping this was a business decision and not a technical one. Meaning it can be done easily but just currently not the right timing to offer.
