With the same 50 amp wiring from the circuit panel, wall charger can do 11.5kw (48A) but mobile connector can only do 7kw (32A). Why?

The HPWC can not charge at 48A on a 50A circuit, it requires a 60A circuit. Code requires continuous draw at 80% of circuit rating, so the HPWC or gen 1 mobile connector could do 40A on a 50A circuit. Not sure of the specifics for why they've limited the newer mobile connectors to 32A, although it may have been a safety issue. I threw my gen 1 mobile connector in the Cybertruck, I need to check and see if it will work with the vault 14-50 to charge at 40A.

If I was to guess I’d say it boils down to design and manufacturing dollars vs mobile charging requirements. If it’s going to be used on the road, hence “mobile connector”, then there’s a higher likelihood that it won’t be connected to a 240V/60amp-capable circuit. So they can save dollars by making it smaller and lighter and with a thinner charge cord.

Charging circuits must be derated to 80% because they are continuous loads. A 50A breaker can only support 40A max.

A NEMA 14-50 plug is a 50A plug and as such, only supports less than 40A charging.

The mobile connector just wasn't built to support 50A charging, it's just the way it was designed.

The difference between 32A and 48A isn't that big. In most cases, at 32A, your charging is going to be complete in a few hours.

I have a similar issue since I bought my CB. Wall connector is showing 5 led, 60amp. Truck shows 48amp (normal) but only charges at 24amp. That doesn't seem right.

Assuming the user interface only lets you set it lower than 24 but not higher, your truck's PCS module likely has a bad internal DCAC converter. There are two and each can handle 24A.

Thanks Mongo, I only read 24-amp was normal, so this has been going on for 1.5 years! Well, I put in a service request to fix it. Will be great seeing 48-amp charging (and 1/2 the time)

Hapoy to help. Does it look like this?
Sounds identical

I charged at home last night 12+ hours and got to 77%.

This video might be of interest.

Plugged in and not charging, app displays 48A. Start charging and it drops to 24A.
