Hi all,

I have a very early FS CT and have been loving it. With the ability to transfer the FSD to a new cybertuck, I'm very tempted to trade mine in for a new one. The trade in offer is higher than what I owe which is awesome (holding it's value really well). The main reason for wanting to update it to a new truck is to reset the trucks warranty while I still can transfer FSD and to get a truck with a newer PCS version (although these still can fail but the failure rate seems to be lower). My truck has 15000+ miles on it and I haven't had a PCS failure yet (I have had to deal with the various recalls and my inverter failed around 6k miles). I only have about 1.5 years left on the warranty that would cover the PCS failure, but mostly I don't like the idea of possibly being stranded because based on the various threads here it happens without warning and randomly. I absolutely love this truck and want to stick with it, but wondering what everyones thoughts are on trading a low VIN (700's) FS for a new 2026 model and transferring my FSD. Oh and not that this matters a bunch but my payment would also be $500 less a month.

Alternatively I'm eyeing a new model x which comes with the luxe package and is capable of towing our trailer (used to have a model x and it towed it fine). But I think giving up the CT would make me feel dead inside, so this option might not be feasible.

Feedback is appreciated!

What's pcs
Its the power conversion system. Please see the video posted earlier in this thread (Done by Munro) that does a great job of explaining what it is and how it's different from all other tesla models.

No I believe this refers to early production PCS failures. For more info see this. link.

Yes, the way I read it the PCS would degrade first if you were lucky, before the drive unit went out and you are stranded on the highway. But it looks like the problem with the PCS is much wider than this recall which only covered vehicles up to July of 2024. Mine was October 2024. Went out last week at 25K miles. Getting it fixed tomorrow - the first available appointment.

Tesla has a digital record of every EV they have produced. They know which torque wrench tightened every bolt, which supplier supplied every PCS, etc. VIN "ranges" mean very little, it's all about the exact VIN number. The reason for this is that parts from various suppliers are interleaved on the production line (because the parts are considered functionally equivalent). It's only down the road that Tesla might identify a high failure rate in a part from a specific supplier. That's why they keep digital records of ever car ever built.

No, Tesla doesn't expect every PCS to eventually fail, if they did they would recall all of them.

Fair but there are inconsistencies how they are responding to it.

If they really did flag certain VINs, then it would make sense that more failures here would see a preemptive "PCS replacement" service. I've only seen 1-2 forum members report this out of all the failures reported.

I think 2 of them even went completely beyond 50k miles and had to eat the repair. Never told by SC. Charged 6-7k. You would think they'd see a notice for them and replace it as covered. I think 1 person was able to get them to cover it after posting on X and messaging Wes.

If they do know the exact VINs and have a service bulletin up... I sure hope that they would reach out to those customers rather than trying to ride the warranty.

and yea, obviously not all of them but my point is that it's affecting '24-'25 to SOME degree. But there is a reason they decided '26+ would now include high priced propulsion 7y/70k for the PCS.

Again, not DOOMING that '24-'25 = certain PCS failure. But it sure feels like a small fraction of the '24-'25 failures are actually being noted as problems BEFORE the actual failure occurs.

For an additional data point, I just recently had my second PCS replacement. My first one at around 35,000 miles, and I just had my second replacement at 47,000 miles.

Delivery June 2024. VIN *16731.

Yea that's my largest concern. 15-30k miles seems to be the average lifespan of these PCSs. Based on the mileage reported by the few that reported it here.

Mine was 11xxx as well. May 2024 delivery, AWD, 33k miles when it went to 24/24 mode.

When I created the service ticket there was a line added by them "Cybertruck PCS2 Replacement"

PCS was replaced on 03/06/2026. They did it in one day.
Yeah they won't touch mine until it evinces problems. Based on the VINs I'm very likely affected, but I only have 13K miles. I almost never use a DC charger so who knows when it may get tickled. Being 3.5 hours from a TSC, I would hope they would take care of me. I guess only time will tell and hope it shows up before May of 2028 or 50K miles.

Have you checked Service Mode for older inactive alerts?

I hadn't because mine was AC charging fine at 40/40. When I saw it drop to 24/24 I checked and found an active alert for the PCS and a long list of inactive alerts related to the PCS.

If you have those, maybe that'll be enough to get your SC to do the swap?
