Oh man, living in Colorado and being able to drive over an hour in a snowstorm to go skiing, this is a problem for me. It’s holding me back on pulling the trigger on a cybertruck.

Would spraying a deicer on them actually work?
Live in CO tried driving up at 530am in November during the snow storm. Had to turn around. Way too dangerous. Won’t attempt again unless there is a solution. Not worth risking the lives of others and myself.

Anyone saying it’s LEDs it’s not. Plenty of other vehicles with LEDs and not an issue. It’s the cybertruck. Tesla hopefully builds an accessory for this.
It is. We have a Challenger that has a more dramatic headlight "shelf" than the CT. Ice clogging isn't much of an issue because the lights melt it. Our model 3 with slick smooth front end wasn't bad, but ice wouldn't melt off those lights without some help.

Can you explain further how that would help the LED headlight area way up front away from the cabin? I'm confused.
Those are options that are available in the cold climates, so thought to see if using them would help. When our truck is cold and frosted, we use those modes, but have not had the snow yet this year to see if any of that helps.

I’m in TX so I’ve only seen snow like 10 times in my whole life. But don’t you people have ice scrapers that can knock that pesky snow and ice off?

We do but on i70 and mountain passes it’s impossible to stop every 5 minutes to do so lol.

Have you tried to Precondition the battery, heat the interior or run Defrost mode?
Yes. Multiple times and often (of course). Ironically, the rest of the truck does a great job at thawing. But in the lights, the dripping snow from the hood feeezes on the shelf and develops into a light wall.
So it sort of also makes it worse….

lol dude. We are in Vermont. We live in snow. Have a half dozen styles in my door way from the small ones to the jack-hammer 2000 models. Also keep a hammer for when times get desperate. I’m not posting cause a little snow on my lights and I’m an idiot that didn’t think to wipe it off lol. I’m out here chiseling baby! ?

Btw I was purposefully light handed there while filming. Just capturing the issue (that’s not me strong arming the scrapped hah!)

Seemed to be the shelf / cave they put it in.

This was brought up with examples in the first few months of 2024 in the news a YT video examples to no avail.

Remove the recess by using a plastic lens cover thereby making it flush with the surrounding bodywork, like you would use to protect a headlight would surely help, adding a heating element to that cover wouldn’t hurt.

Doesn’t solve the problem, but just cram some shit in there if it’s snowing while you’re parked. 3/4 inch pipe insulation is a great fit, then just throw it in the vault or in the frunk when you’re leaving.

I am trying to figure out how the heat would physically transfer that far away to above the bumper.

If your weather is below freezing go put an ice cube on that ledge against the led lens then turn on your cabin heater.

Seems like this will be a recall issue? If the stupid accelerator pedal thing got a recall, seems like this will be even more likely.
No, lights from above you will just reflect from the snow in the air above the frunk.

We do but on i70 and mountain passes it’s impossible to stop every 5 minutes to do so lol.
Then you're not driving safely.
